Chapter 18 Feel Out of Place
The party hall was elegantly decorated, and the buffet was set up in a lavish spread.
The room was filled with high–society guests, glasses clinking and conversations flowing.
The attendees were all from prestigious families–well–dressed men and women exuding grace, elegance, and poise.
As soon as they entered, a couple approached them. The man greeted Cordell with a handshake, while his female companion, who appeared to be of mixed heritage, had striking blue eyes that immediately drew attention. She warmly hugged Stacy.
With a smile, Stacy said, “Jeri, you seem even more beautiful than before.”
Jeri laughed lightly. “Oh, thank you, Mrs. Decker. You are still the most beautiful.”
Elaine rarely attended such extravagant events. She looked around at the crowd, feeling slightly out of place, and stood awkwardly behind Stacy.
While Stacy and Jeri continued chatting, they didn’t notice her

A waiter passed by with a tray of champagne, and Elaine casually picked up a glass. She found a quiet corner, sat down, and observed the bustling crowd with a calm demeanor. Her gaze eventually landed on Cordell and Stacy, who were conversing with Jimmy and Jeri.
Stacy was wearing a bright magenta strapless gown, her skin glowing and her figure graceful, captivating everyone around her.
Cordell, in a silver suit and white shirt, radiated elegance and sophistication.
Together, they made the perfect couple–he was refined and handsome, and she was poised and beautiful.
At that moment, Elaine couldn’t help but admit it: the two of them were truly a perfect match.
A self–deprecating smile tugged at the corners of her lips. She looked down at the champagne in her hand, lightly swirling it before taking a small sip.
After a few moments, Stacy and Jeri noticed Elaine wasn’t with them anymore. Stacy turned around and spotted her sitting alone in the
corner.

while they had the chance.
She whispered something to Cordell, who nodded, then excused herself from Jimmy and Jeri and made her way over to Elaine.
Elaine was lost in thought, staring at her champagne, until Stacy stood in front of her.
With a smile, Stacy asked, “Elaine, what are you doing here all by yourself?”
She waved at a passing waiter, who approached with a tray, and Stacy took another glass of champagne. “You’re not familiar with this crowd, are you? Come on, let me introduce you to some people.”
As Mrs. Decker and a daughter of the Valentine family, Stacy was well–known at these kinds of events. She moved through them with ease, and many people eagerly sought her out.
She led Elaine into the crowd, heading toward two women dressed in glamorous gowns. With a warm smile, she greeted them. “Georgina, Valerie.”
The two women, holding champagne glasses, were chatting when they spotted Stacy and greeted her enthusiastically. “Mrs. Decker, it’s been so long.”
In this circle, many people envied Stacy–not only was she from a

prestigious family, but she was also beautiful and well–married.
Her husband Cordell was handsome, wealthy, and the heir to the Decker family business, while Stacy herself was a successful businesswoman.
Georgina looked at Elaine, who appeared elegant but unfamiliar to her. She asked, “Mrs. Decker, who is this?”
Stacy subtly turned toward Elaine, guiding her closer. “This is my sister, Elaine.”
She then turned to Elaine and introduced her. “Elaine, these two are Georgina and Valerie.”
Elaine smiled and greeted them, “Hello.”
