Chapter 16 Birthday Gift
Elaine smiled gently and called out, “Domingo.”
She gave the driver the address for the magazine office. Although the magazine office wasn’t on the way to Marcelo’s destination, Marcelo still drove her there, which made her feel both flattered and surprised.
Peggy personally introduced her to her new colleagues. Since everyone knew she was under Peggy’s guidance, they were all very considerate and friendly toward her.
With no prior experience, her first day was filled with small tasks like photocopying and running errands. By the time work ended, she realized she hadn’t really accomplished much.

On the day of Abraham’s 80th birthday, the servants delivered her gown to Elaine’s room early in the morning, along with a set of exquisite, custom–made jewelry.
Although the party would be in the evening, Elaine had taken the day off.
After lunch, Marcelo and Constance left for the restaurant.

In the evening, Stacy and Cordell came to the Valentine family to pick up Abraham and take him to the party.
Hearing footsteps coming from the staircase, Cordell turned his gaze toward them, his eyes dark and sharp.
Elaine descended the stairs in her gown. She wore a one–shoulder dress with lace trimming at the hem. The uneven skirt fluttered as she moved, flowing gracefully like smoke, adding to her ethereal elegance.
As she reached the bottom of the stairs, Stacy smiled and approached her. “Elaine, you look absolutely stunning tonight.”
Elaine was naturally slim, with a slender waist and fair skin, so she looked beautiful in whatever she wore.
In this high–end gown, her elegance was immediately evident, exuding the poise and charm of a young lady from a well–established family.
She held a square gift box in her hands, a birthday gift for Abraham.
She walked up to him and handed him the gift. “Happy birthday, Grandpa.”
Abraham grunted in response but didn’t extend his hand to take the gift. She awkwardly held it in both hands, unsure of what to do next.
Seeing this, Stacy smiled brightly and stepped forward. “Grandpa, let

Before Abraham could say anything, Stacy took the box from Elaine and placed it on the coffee table, already unwrapping it.
Inside was a beautifully crafted coffee cup, with delicate blue floral patterns, clearly made with the finest craftsmanship.
Abraham, a coffee enthusiast, would surely appreciate such a thoughtful gift.
His expression softened, and a faint smile appeared on his face, showing that he liked the gift.
Stacy beamed and said, “Grandpa, look at how thoughtful Elaine is. Your old coffee cup was getting worn out; it was definitely time for a new one.”
Abraham made a noncommittal sound and told the servant to place the new coffee cup in the coffee room. With the help of his cane, he slowly stood up. “Let’s go now.”
Stacy walked over and helped him, and they all left the living room. Cordell’s car was waiting outside.
Stacy opened the car door and helped Abraham inside, then sat beside him in the back seat.

Elaine glanced at Cordell, who was behind the wheel. After a brief pause, she opened the front passenger door and got in.
Throughout the ride, she kept her gaze fixed on the window, deliberately avoiding looking at the man beside her, trying not to let him affect her.
When they arrived at the restaurant, it was still early, and only a few guests had arrived.
Cordell accompanied Abraham to greet the guests, while Elaine and Stacy went upstairs to freshen up.
Elaine’s hair had been loosely pinned up with a few hairpins, and there was no real style to it. Stacy gently guided her to a chair and began redoing her hair.
She added a sparkling rhinestone hairpin, and soft waves of hair framed her face, giving her a more delicate and graceful appearance.
