Chapter 15 First Job
Elaine didn’t even glance at him. With a smile, she casually walked from behind Karen to stand behind Fabian, placing a hand on his shoulder and gently adjusting his collar in a familiar, almost affectionate manner.
“If you have time, let’s grab coffee sometime and catch up,” she said with a cheerful smile before walking away.
Fabian lowered his gaze, mentally preparing to explain things to Karen. But when he looked up, he was struck by the sight of Karen, tears welling in her eyes, her eyelids slightly reddened–looking heartbreakingly delicate.
Panicked, he stammered, “Karen, I…”
“Fabian, we’re done. Don’t ever contact me again,” Karen said, rising to her feet, grabbing her bag, and running off in tears.
Watching Karen’s fragile figure vanish, Fabian was furious. He pulled out his phone and dialed Cordell’s number.
The moment the call connected, he shouted, “Elaine ruined my date!”
Cordell, standing in front of the floor–to–ceiling windows in his office, looked down at the bustling crowd below, like ants scurrying around.

He smirked. “As long as she’s happy, let her do her thing.”
Fabian was caught off guard by his response and roared, “Bro, you’ve completely lost it when it comes to women! I’m cutting ties with you!”
“I’ll take care of your tab at Golden Bay from now on.”
The moment he heard that, Fabian’s mood lifted. All his frustration melted away, and he laughed. “Alright, I’ll let it slide this time, just for you.”
Golden Bay was the most exclusive entertainment club in Aleshire, frequented by rich, aimless young men like Fabian.
Of course, the prices there were sky–high, but as long as someone else was picking up the bill, who wouldn’t be happy?

On her first day of work, Elaine woke up early. As she was heading downstairs, she found Marcelo already in the dining room, having breakfast.
She hesitated for a moment but decided to approach him. “Good morning, Dad.”
Marcelo chewed his bread before giving a casual grunt in response.

Olivia, surprised to see her up so early and dressed as if she were about to go out, said, “Ms. Valentine, I didn’t expect you to be up this early. Your breakfast isn’t ready yet.”
Elaine waved it off. “Just some milk will do.”
Olivia quickly prepared a cup of milk, and Elaine sat down at the table, glancing at Marcelo across from her.
As Marcelo wiped his mouth and started to rise, she quickly said, “Dad, I found a job at the magazine office.”
Marcelo froze mid–motion, his gaze meeting hers for a few seconds. Without seeming to care that Olivia was still present, he said, “If you’re planning to stay in the country, then keep your head down. Stacy and Cordell are already married, and the Valentine family values its reputation above all else. Understand?”
The warning in his words was clear, and Elaine knew exactly what he
meant.
A wave of bitterness rose in her chest, but she nodded obediently. “I understand.”
Seeing her response, Marcelo assumed she had let go of the past. He didn’t say anything further, simply glancing at his watch. “It’s still early. I’ll give you a ride and wait for you in the car.”

She was about to decline, but before she could, Marcelo had already exited the living room with quick steps.
Not wanting to keep him waiting, Elaine hurriedly drank a couple of sips of her still–warm milk, grabbed her bag, and rushed out, one hand brushing over her lips, which had been slightly burned.
Marcelo’s car was waiting outside. The driver got out and opened the door for her, and she climbed in.
Marcelo was engrossed in his newspaper, not bothering to look up.
In the passenger seat was Marcelo’s secretary, who greeted her with a smile. “Good morning, Ms. Valentine.”
