Elaine sat in the rest area, casually opening a bottle of water and taking a sip.
Although it wasn’t quite summer yet, even a little exercise made beads of sweat form on her forehead.
Not far away, Marcelo and a senior executive from a company were energetically swinging their golf clubs.
The two were evenly matched, and after two hours of playing, they still hadn’t decided a winner.
It was Saturday, and Elaine had originally planned a two–day trip with two colleagues. However, last night during dinner, Marcelo told her he had arranged to play golf and discuss a project with someone, and asked her to join him for some relaxation.
She knew well enough that Marcelo wouldn’t have invited her out for no reason. But after two hours, she still hadn’t figured out his intention for bringing her here.
Once they arrived at the golf course, Marcelo and Donnell exchanged pleasantries before grabbing their clubs and starting to play. It seemed

less like a business discussion and more like they were here just to play.
Her golf skills were average, and after playing alone for a while, she lost interest. She decided to sit back and scroll through her phone
instead.
When she looked up again, Marcelo and Donnell had stopped playing and were walking in her direction.
She shifted her gaze to follow them.
Walking toward them was none other than Jackson.
Dressed in a white tracksuit and holding a golf club, he was accompanied by two or three others. One of them, Elaine recognized from Abraham’s birthday party–a CEO of some company.
She remembered him well because he was balding, which left a strong impression on her.
After a few polite exchanges, Marcelo waved at her. She walked over and offered Jackson a polite smile. “Mr. Mason.”
Jackson glanced at her, giving a brief nod. His demeanor was much colder than at Abraham’s birthday party, and his attitude seemed more distant.

Usually, when he was in a suit, his features were sharp and commanding, but in casual clothes today, he appeared more relaxed and refined, almost like a different person.
Donnell, adjusting his perfectly combed hair, said, “Since Mr. Mason is here to play, why don’t we join in?”
Marcelo added, “If Mr. Mason doesn’t mind, the more the merrier.”
Jackson had come here to discuss a contract, and the deal had already been wrapped up. Seeing that Marcelo and Donnell were so eager, he didn’t feel right refusing, so he nodded in agreement.
“Elaine isn’t the best at golf. If it’s not too much trouble, Mr. Mason, perhaps you could give her a few pointers?”
Although Marcelo’s words were polite, everyone understood what he was really trying to do–he was hoping to use this opportunity to bring Elaine closer to Jackson.
Elaine’s expression shifted slightly. No wonder Marcelo had insisted on bringing her here–it was all part of his plan.
Had they known from the start that Jackson would be here and were just waiting for him?
Jackson, with his usual detached demeanor, replied, “The Mason family isn’t struggling enough to need me as a coach.”

Marcelo, slightly embarrassed, quickly corrected himself, “No, no, Mr. Mason, you misunderstand. I just thought Elaine might get bored here on her own.”
“Bored?” Jackson switched the golf club to his other hand, thought for a moment, then raised an eyebrow. “Well, then why don’t you pick up the balls for me?”
While Marcelo’s face lit up with an almost pleased expression, Elaine’s face darkened.
‘A caddy picks up the balls, but I have to do it?‘
As Jackson continued playing, it became clear he was just teasing her.
Nine out of ten balls were hit off course, rolling far away. Her legs were starting to ache from running after them.
