I called out, “We’re going to see your parents
tomorrow. Don’t sleep in.”
9:16
He started to protest.
“There’s gonna be some drama.”
His head snapped back.
“What kind of drama?”

The next morning, the sun had barely risen
when it was time to head to his parents‘ place.
for the tea ceremony.
I got into the car, and Jake jumped in.
His hair was a mess.
“What drama?”
I smirked.
“Punctual.”

He could barely hide his grin, but he turned to
the window.
“Don’t get any ideas. I still don’t feel anything for you.”
He made sure to sit far away from me.
I stayed quiet.
He couldn’t take it anymore.
“You wanted my brother, right? He’s a real
man, got a lot of power in the company. Even Britney tells me to kiss up to him.”
He tightened his jaw, his ears perked, like he
really cared.
“You’re a million times better than him.”
He looked like he couldn’t believe it.
<
“You serious?”
I smiled, then got out of the car to grab the
gifts for his parents.
Jake’s attitude did a 180.
He rushed over to help me.
Chase and my sister were already there.
The vibe in the courtyard was tense.
My sister was freaking out even more than last time.
She even dragged my parents into it.
I smiled.
Of course.

Last time, Jake just ignored her, and she
couldn’t handle it, arguing from home all the
way to his parents‘ place.

This time, she was married to Chase, and with
her temper, there was no way she could handle
- it.
We walked in and saw my sister ranting.
“He wants my Sterling shares! I said no, so he locked me in a doghouse overnight! He’s a
monster!”
The Sterlings gave us each three percent of their company shares as a wedding gift, and our family gifted the brothers shares of our
family business.
Chase wanted my sister’s share.
Jake whispered.
9:16
“Real?”
I shook my head.
Of course it was real.
Chase had tried to sweet–talk me into giving
him my shares, and when I refused, he locked
me in a dirty doghouse.

I threatened to give my shares to my dad, and
he let me out.
