I laughed.
“It’s okay, I have plans. Go to work.”
Jake saw Chase on my screen and looked mad.
In the cafeteria, Jake snuck over to our table.
Chase said, “We’ll talk later?”
Jake grabbed me.

I sighed.

You told me to get a boyfriend!”

Jake stormed off.
That night, he was sent home drunk.
He grabbed my hand and pulled out an apron.
“My friends laugh at me, being a family man, and being so corny…”

I covered him and smiled.

My husband loved me and didn’t lie to me. That
was all that mattered.
Dealing with his girlfriend was okay.
One day, Jake and I were talking about
shareholders. Britney ran in and hugged Jake.
“Baby, I’m pregnant!”
Jake caught her.
“Sit down. Don’t tire out the baby.”
Britney ran to the bathroom, puked, and wanted
a lot of food.
Jake had someone get it.
I sat by the window.
Britney ate a little, then got tired.
Jake carried her upstairs.
I yelled, “Jake!”
I was smiling until now.
Jake bargained.
“Britney’s sick. Can she stay?”
This was how they moved in last time.
I set a timer.

“I can’t drive. I’ll throw up.”
Jake said, “Britney, it’s bad for you here. I’ll
carry you. Sleep on my arms.”
Britney said, “I’m having your baby. You’re hurting me.”
Jake carried her out.
I thought it was over. Then, Britney showed up
at Sterling.
I didn’t tell people, but some people knew they
had been together in college.
Britney was pregnant, meaning Jake had
cheated on his wife! He sent the shares to her!
The vote happened.
