Chapter 2
Maya’s POV
I had to pinch myself to be sure I wasn’t dreaming. But Hunter’s intoxicating scent and his firm grip on my waist confirmed to ine that this was all real–Hunter was really my mare
The warmth of his arms made me feel safe, so safe that I would’ve raised a middle finger to people like Britney who were glaring at me, until 1 caught sight of Gelen her eyes red rimmed and puffy.
I quickly tore away from Hunter, suddenly feeling like a traitor. But Hunter took my hand instead and led me to where Gelena stood. Was he about to reject me for her?
“Gelena, you said you’d be fine with whoever ended up being my mate, even if it wasn’t you. I hope that this doesn’t come in the way of our friendship Hunter said.
Gelena’s homfied face suddenly reverted to a forced smile.
“Of course Hunter. You will always be my best friend, I was just a little shocked. I’m sure everyone is after finding out your mate is a rogue “Gelena
bat my lip, her words feeling like a stab wound. Did she have to put it that way? I turned to Hunter, expecting him to nod approvingly and proceed to reject for for someone better.
“Roque or not Maya is a member of this pack. She is my mane and she will be your luna.” Hunter declared, facing the crowd
I couldn’t muster the
uster the courage to look back at the crowd, afraid of the glares I’d receive. I expected curses and people voicing their disapproval, but instead. Hunter’s speech was followed by a wave of applause.
People who had never even bothered to know my name before were suddenly congratulating me and being so nice to me. I was so surprised that 1 wasn’t even sure how to respond. My mind drifted to Gelena and guilt tugged at my chest. I wanted to talk to her, but my mate’s iron grip on my wait held me in place, and I soon got distracted.
Three weeks had passed since the mate finding ceremony. I had moved into the alpha’s home as custom demanded and preparations were bring made for our wedding, which was to be held in two days and would serve as my Luna crowning ceremony as well.
Hunter’s parents weren’t pleased with me being their son’s mate. If not that Hunter was already the alpha, I’m sure they would have tried to stop our union. They never outrightly expressed their disapproval, but I could see it in their eyes and the way they always fell quiet whenever I walked
I had been afraid of Hunter suddenly rejecting me for being too low class for him, but our wedding being two days away solidified the fact that he really did want to be with me. We were yet to complete our mate bood because we both agreed to wait until we were officially married. We rarely got to spend quality time together due to his alpha duties, but I knew that would change once we became official
Gelena and I were yet to speak since my Juna training under Hunter’s mother took up so much of my time. Even though I knew it was the Goddess decision to muze Hunter and me muses, I still felt bad for Gelena.
Today was my
final Bridal timing day, so I left the house with a servant trailing behind me, as mandated by the
e luna training
At the bridalore, I wore my gown with the selected jewelry set and shoes. The dress had diamonds sprinkled around it and fit like a glove. I twirled happily, imagining myself walking down the aisle to be with Hunter
“You seem to be having a lot of fun” A familiar voice suddenly said.
I turned around to see it was Gelena. Relief and guilt washed through me.
“Gelena. I’m so happy to see you. I’ve wanted us to talk for so long” I said, moving towards her
“Talk about what, how you stole my mate?” she asked, stopping me in my tracks.
“How dare you accuse me of such a thing??” 1 asked, my anger rising.
e you. If you think you’ve succeeded in stealing what is rightfully mine, think again” She said and quickly
“Hunter deres better than a rogue like you. If you
piled for How could the accuse me of such, and what the hell did she mean by already practically married at this point! Was her heartache making her delusional
y her last statement? Did she not know that I and Hunter were

A prickle of unease settled within me. I dug out my phone and duled Hunter’s number. It rang but he didn’t pick. I remembered he said he would be at a meeting with a neighboring pack to discuss boundaries. I needed reassurance of his love, but I recalled how he had declared his choice of me before the entire pack during the mate finding ceremony. If Hunter only cared about status and wealth, he would’ve immediately rejected me for a mate with a higher status. That alone reassured me, so I asked the bridal store owner to wrap my dress and 1 had the servant take it back to the alpha’s house
Hunter didn’t conse hack home that day or the day after, making me uneasy. I called, and it turned out the meeting had escalated to something rather serious. The welding preparations were still going according to plan, but I felt a sense of dread with each passing day as Gelena’s words kept ringing in my head.
Soon, our wedding day arrived. I hadn’t seen Hunter though we spoke occasionally over the phone. I knew he wouldn’t miss his own wedding. That would incur the wrath of the pack elders and affect his status as alpha

I wore my wedding dress and let the makeup artists work their magic. I wasn’t a fan of makeup, but I knew Hunter would appreciate it. I secretly wanted to see his reaction.
was ready, I walked into the large hull. The pianist cued the music as I slowly made my way up the aisle. My diamond dress sparkled under the golden light of the chandeliers, and I caught sight of Britney, who looked like she was restraining herself from swinging at me.
I reached the end of the aisle and stood, waiting patiently for Hunter to make his appearance. My heart swelled with happiness. This was really happening: Hunter and I were finally getting married,
Juddenly, the doors at the back of the hall swung open. Casps echoed through the room. I turned, wondering why the atmosphere suddenly changed What I saw broke my heart to a million pieces and shattered my hopes and dreams around me
My mate had just walked in with Gelena as his bride.
