Chapter 13 Go Chat with Her
A loud, crisp slap echoed through the cafe.
Everyone watching was stunned into silence.
Even Emma looked scared. She instinctively grabbed Alice’s arm.
“Alice, I’ve dragged you into this.”
If the police got involved, they’d both be held accountable for fighting. There was no doubt they’d be reprimanded and punished.
Emma might lose her job, but she could always find another.
However, Alice was different.
In her eyes, Alice was like a fairy who lived deep in the mountains. If she got arrested, then the other fairies on that mountain wouldn’t have anyone to bring them food.
She was at a loss.
“Alice, quick, you should leave before the police get here. I’ll take all the blame.”
Her eyes turned red with panic as if she wished Alice could vanish into thin air.
Alice didn’t look worried at all.
What had just happened was clearly self–defense. There was no way the police could pin anything on her.
“Relax. It’s going to be fine.”
Felicia held her stinging cheek as her teeth clenched in fury.
“Fine. Just wait. I swear I’ll make sure you both rot in jail!”
With that, she whipped out her phone. No one knew if she was calling the police or someone to back her up.
Emma grew even more anxious.
“Alice, please, just run.”
Alice patted the back of her hand. “Running is too tiring. Come on, sit down and take a break.”
Emma looked like she was about to cry. “How can you still be so calm at a time like this?”
“Hmph! My husband’s here!”
Suddenly, Felicia shouted and rushed to the cafe entrance, dragging over a man with a pot belly.
The moment the man saw Alice, his é
eyes lit up.
Emma instantly felt uncomfortable under his gaze and instinctively stepped in front of Alice to shield her.
Hubby, it’s them! Look at my face! She hit me!”

The man squinted and smiled slyly.

“You two had the nerve to bully my wife, huh?”
Alice sucered. “Do you have any proof of it?”
Felicia shouted, “Look at me! My body’s covered in bruises! That’s proof enough!”
Alice looked her straight in the eye. “And how do you know you didn’t just fall and hurt yourself?”
Felicia was speechless.
The man couldn’t help but laugh.

He took a few steps forward and lowered his voice. “I can tell you girls aren’t exactly rolling in cash. If my wife decides to press charges, you’ll definitely lose your jobs.”
Emma bit her lip hard, feeling completely defeated.
“I” She wanted to apologize and take the blame.
That was what she usually did when she upset a customer.
This time, she had just lost control of her emotions.
Alice wasn’t the least bit afraid. “We don’t care,” she said with a cold smile. “In fact, I’m looking forward to the police arriving. I wonder how they’ll handle this.”
She stepped forward with an oppressive aura.
“I bet they’ll want to know… Why would someone like your wife be in a small cafe like this in the first place?” She pointed to the hospital across the street.
“Someone important to you staying there, perhaps?”
The man’s expression instantly changed.
Just moments ago, his eyes had been filled with lust. Now, they were wide with panic.
“Y–you… you-
“What’s wrong, honey?” Felicia asked in confusion. She had been counting on him to help her get revenge, but his reaction made her uneasy.
The man quickly grabbed her hand. “Let’s go. We’re going home.”
“No! I want to deal with them first!”
“Have you not embarrassed yourself enough already?” the man growled under his breath.
Felicia was stunned. “You’re yelling at me for two strangers now?”
He gritted his teeth. “We’ll talk about this at home.”
Then Alice calmly chimed in, “You both came to the hospital together, didn’t you? So why is your husband inside while you’re here buying coffee?”

Chapter 13 Go Chat with Her
Felicia froze. She clearly hadn’t considered that.
Alice added to remind her, “This hospital’s neurology department is well–known, but its OB–GYN is also quite famous.”
Felicia’s face changed instantly as realization hit her.
She turned to her husband and demanded, “Tell me! Are you secretly seeing another woman behind my back?”
The man stammered and fumbled for words.
Felicia flew into a rage and grabbed the man, ready to strike.
The man panicked too, and the two of them quickly got into a full–on brawl.
Only then did Alice turn around and gently comfort Emma.
“Don’t be afraid when things like this happen. Protecting yourself is always the right thing to do.”
Emma was still a little dazed by everything that had just happened.
She didn’t even fully catch what Alice said, but she nodded quickly anyway.
Soon after, the cafe resumed business as usual, and Emma went to change clothes.
Alice wasn’t comfortable leaving her alone, so she followed along and helped apply medicine to Emma’s bruises.
“By the way, Alice,” Emma asked, “how did you know that man was cheating?”
Alice carefully brushed Emma’s hair and tied it into a ponytail.
Only then did she reply, “He smelled faintly of milk and he had a hospital wristband–one of those they give to companions in the maternity ward.”
Emma thought hard and asked seriously, “Maybe he was just visiting a relative or a friend?”
Alice smiled. “All the more reason to bring his wife along.”
‘If it really was a relative or a friend giving birth, there’d be breastfeeding involved, A man should be cautious
and avoid being there during those times.
Emma thought back on everything that had just happened and admired Alice even more.
“You’re always amazing. It’s like nothing in this world could ever catch you off guard.”
Alice didn’t respond to the compliment. Instead, she asked, “So, how did you end up working here?”
“Oh, I got accepted into grad school this year. Just trying to make some money to support myself.”
Alice nodded and asked, “What’s your field of study?”
“Biomedical sciences.”
Emma had a few bruises on her body and a scratch on her face, but nothing serious enough to affect her work. She decided not to take time off and insisted on finishing her shift.

Alice couldn’t change her mind, so she let her go.
Not long after Alice left the break room, the cafe manager came over.
“Emma, come tidy up for a moment.”
Emma was startled. “Sir, you’re not going to fire me, are you?”
The manager glanced in the direction Alice had left.

“No, not at all. Upper management thinks you handled things really well. They’re planning to promote you to store manager.”
Emma was overjoyed. “Really? That’s amazing! Thank you! I’ll do my best!”
Alice had only walked a few steps out of the cafe when she saw Eric approaching in a wheelchair.
- “How did you know I was here?” she asked.
Eric glanced at the cafe’s sign and said calmly, “Stanley’s in the car. He saw exactly where you went.”
Alice was speechless.
Oh right. I’dcompletelyforgottenabout Stanley.
She chuckled softly. “You came out so fast. Didn’t feel like chatting with your childhood sweetheart?” Eric’s expression darkened.
“It’s fine, no rush. Go back and talk to her. I feel like browsing the shops.”
There was a popular mall nearby–Apex Mall, a well–known spot in Mapleford. She figured she might as well check it out.
Without waiting for his reply or caring how stormy his expression looked, she turned and started walking toward the mall.
Stanley came jogging over. “Mr. Nolan, should we follow her?”
Eric closed his eyes and rubbed his temples, ignoring the question. Instead, he asked, “Where’s the specialist you arranged?”
“He’s waiting in the car.”
