Alice wasn’t in the mood for drama and hung up immediately.

Finally unable to ignore it, Alice answered.
“Alice, don’t get too full of yourself.”

Alice smiled playfully. “Hearing you so worked up just makes me feel better. What do you want me to do?”
She could almost hear Sandy grinding her teeth on the other end.

Sandy took a deep breath, sounding sharp. “Do you think Eric has fallen for you now?”
Alice snorted. “What gave you that idea?”
Sandy sneered, “You’re only this bold because you helped Eric get that car. That was why you were rude to my mom”
Alice laughed out loud.
“I don’t think that’s the case.”
When have I ever been nice to Ruby?
Sandy paused for a second before saying. “Anyway, don’t think you’re safe with the Nolans. Eric just sees you as a placeholder.”
Alice had to admit, that got her attention.

“Eric practices the faith, so basically, he’s kind of obsessed with you.
“Oh, and don’t forget–that car you fought so hard for tonight?
“That was a gift from the same woman.”
Sandy laughed louder now, even more bold than before.
The race car you risked everything for is actually a love token between Eric and someone else.
“Feeling like crying yet?”

Alice hung up right away.
I really shouldn’t have answered.

When she looked up, she noticed that the bedroom door opened.
Eric, freshly showered, stood there and saw her frustrated face.
He walked over, opened a drawer, and handed her an a

Alice took the apple, feeling a bit better.
“You’re welcome. I’ll probably need your help a lot more from now on.”

Then he changed and lay down.
Alice was stunned. She asked, “You’re going to sleep already? I wanna chat.”
Eric crossed his arms over his stomach. I can chat lying down!”
That sounded kind of suggestive.
Alice cleared her throat and went back to her little bed.
“Forget it. I’ll just sleep.”
After all, this lovesick feeling couldn’t be cured.
