Chapter 74 The Price of Pride
Chapter 74 The Price of Pride
Jack was speechless..
Well, at least it’s better than not finding anyone at all.
Alice was completely wiped out. The moment she got back to the villa, she went straight to bed.
But Daniel? He was too wired to sleep.
The second he saw Eric step out of his room, he rushed up to him, eyes sparkling-
“Mr. Eric, do you think those bodyguards were just a coincidence?
He said “bodyguards just in case someone was eavesdropping.
But they both knew those guys weren’t bodyguards. They were assassins.
Just the really bad ones.
Eric shot back with a question of his own, “You already have an answer. Why ask me?”
Daniel remained silent. Okay, fair. But still, he just wanted confirmation.
He changed the subject smoothly. “Mr. Eric, didn’t you think it was kind of strange? When I was dealing with those, uh, bodyguards, Mrs. Nolan didn’t even flinch.”
He always thought Alice was bold–but that was in the office.
Put her in a real–life fight–and–kill scenario? She should’ve been terrified.
But no. No matter what brutal moves he pulled on those guys, her face never changed. Calm. Like she’d seen it all before.
“Even though she grew up in the countryside, Daniel said, frowning, ‘she gives off the feeling like this isn’t her first time dealing with this kind of thing.”
Eric leaned back in his wheelchair and asked, “Did you find out who those people were?”
Daniel snapped to attention.
“Yes. They were foreigners, but they all have permanent residency here.
“They’ve been here working on excavation sites–mostly illegal tomb raiding and black–market artifact sales.
“We also found an old book on them today. Word is, they stole it from a castle.”
Hard to say if it’s true, but it’s not something they could ignore either.
Eric closed his eyes, filtering through all the info in his mind.
“Find out where that castle is. Get the details”
Daniel nodded and turned to go.
But just as he reached the stairs, something popped into his head.
“Oh, right, Mr. Eric. A racing event is coming up. Do you-
He stopped mid–sentence and immediately smacked himself across the mouth.
What was he thinking? Given Eric’s condition, even walking was a struggle, let alone racing.

“Tm sorry, I didn’t mean-
“It’s fine,” Eric said calmly. “Tell me more about the race.”
He knew Daniel well. If it were just a regular competition, he wouldn’t have brought it up at all..
Daniel walked back over and gave the full report.
“This race is actually sponsored by Nolan Group. First place prize is a Pagani Zonda.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, a cold aura burst from Eric.
That car was a limited edition, and more than that, it had sentimental value. It was the first car he’d ever collected.
But while he was in a coma, Ruby had manipulated things to get it registered under the company’s name.
Since then, it has become a regular at auction houses.
Collectors would buy it, feel a sense of nostalgia, and then sell it again, like it was some kind of emotional rental.

The auction house, of course, was also owned by Nolan Group. Ruby thought it was getting boring to keep auctioning it on so she came up with a “better” idea–make it a prize.
And she wasn’t wrong. The race was already attracting high–profile racers from overseas.
Daniel added, “Ruby also opened her own auto company. Once this race is over, her company’s reputation is going to be huge.
In other words, unless Eric joined the race and won, no matter who won, it’d be a win for
“I see,” Eric muttered.
He leaned back in his wheelchair and let out a slow breath, looking worn out.
Racing wasn’t just about knowing cars. It took stamina. Reflexes. Total control of the body.
All the things he no longer had.
Ruby.
He hadn’t touched a race car in three, maybe four years. And now, he couldn’t even stand steadily.
There was no way he could compete.
Back at the Spencers‘ residence.
Linda had spent a solid half–hour crying in the arms of Gary, Charlie, and Scott before she finally calmed down.
Gary was absolutely heartbroken.
He’d always spoiled her, granted her every wish. Watching her cry like this made it feel like knives were carving into his chest.
Even though he knew the whole mess had cost the Spencers a ton of money, he just couldn’t bring himself to blame her.
This wasn’t your fault,” he said softly. Those people were vicious. They set up a trap for Halsey. You and Damon just got dragged into it.”
Linda started crying even harder.
She had spent a fortune–millions–to buy the Imperius Ink, just to trade it for “Twelve Muses“.
Her plan was airtight hold onto the painting for a couple of years, wait for the value to skyrocket, then flip it for massive profit
But now Halsey’s reputation was in ruins And the painting? It’s not even worth as much as some no–name hobbyist’s sketch

Which meant, in the end, she’d basically spent a million dollars on a worthless piece of paper.
