“If you can’t even recognize a
maybe you’re not cut out to run the IT department.”
The comments from the team hit Troy hard, like a slap to the face.
Troy had always been the smart kid growing up, and after school, big–name companies were lining up to hire him.
He took a lot of pride in that–and now, getting humiliated like this? It was eating him up.
Hearing everyone talk behind his back made him feel like he could barely stay standing.
Alice, though, wasn’t about to feel bad for someone who’d been trying to take her down from day one.
“Ms. Randall, mind if I ask–what’s the prop
way to handle an employee who’s not only
useless but also throws false accusations around?”
People gasped again.
Everyone knew Troy only got promoted because of Ruby.
So even if he screwed up, the worst he’d probably get was a smaller paycheck.
But Alice? She put Ruby on the spot–didn’t even try to sugarcoat it.
Ruby said nothing.
Troy, looking pale, stammered, “Ms. Randall, this was on me. I, I…
“Thinking of quitting, Mr. Hayden?”
Alice watched him struggle for words and actually seemed amused by it.
She added helpfully, “It’s fine, no rush. Take your
time.”
Troy and Ruby were confused.
Alice casually pulled out her phone. “I’ve got some resignation templates ready to go. Want one?”
Troy stared at her.

Chapter 39 Thinking of Quitting?
By the door, Daniel stood there frozen.
“Mr. Eric, is Mrs. Nolan always this savage?”
Eric just kept watching, clearly impressed.
This woman really knew how to play innocent while hiding her sharp edge. She had just started at the company, and already, she managed to surprise him.
“Mr. Eric, don’t tell me you’re secretly backing her?”
Daniel knew Eric had been a legendary hacker. If he wanted to help Alice from behind the scenes, no one would ever notice.
Eric’s face went cold. “Nope.”
Daniel couldn’t believe it.
“Ms. Randall.”
Troy took a few deep breaths, trying to steady himself.
But he looked like someone had just drained all the energy out of him–his body swayed a bit, like he could drop again at any second.
“I messed up earlier. That’s on me.
“As someone in charge, I should’ve understood my team before jumping to conclusions. I didn’t, and that’s my
failure.
“I don’t think I should keep this position anymore. Ms. Randall, please let me step down.”
As soon as he got the words out, his body gave out and he collapsed right there.
Ruby jumped in panic. “Hurry, get him to the hospital!”
She hadn’t accepted his resignation yet–once Troy got better in the hospital, chances were people would forget all about today.
That way, they could sweep it under the rug.
“Hold on!”

Alice stopped them before anyone could even dial.
She suddenly pulled out a few needles from who–knows–where and crouched down beside Troy.
“He’s not dying. It’s just stress. No need for an ambulance.”
She held up one needle, and before anyone could figure out what she was about to do, she jabbed it under Troy’s nose, right into the pressure point.
Ruby scowled. “Look, I know he accused you unfairly, but this is serious. His life’s on the line -don’t play games.”
Alice gave her a smirk.
“Ms. Randall, you’re finally starting to see that I’m a lucky charm. If I say he doesn’t need an ambulance, then believe me, he doesn’t.”
Ruby was left speechless.
She used to doubt Alice too.
But then Eric got better. Oscar got better.
At this point, she had to believe It!
Still …
Now wasn’t the time for Troy to wake up!
“Alice, I …”
Before she could finish, Troy coughed twice and opened his eyes.
Ruby’s eyes widened.
Seriously? Did he have to wake up now of all times?
Troy blinked up at the ceiling, confused.
Since when did hospital ceilings look like the office?
Then a crowd of people came into view.

He froze.
Why are there so many people visiting?
And then, the one voice he did not want to hear reached his ears.

“Mr. Hayden, since you’re up, you should probably get off the floor. It’s cold–you’ll catch a stomach bug.”
Troy couldn’t believe it.
He rubbed his eyes, trying to process what was going on.
Hadn’t he fainted? Wasn’t he supposed to be in a hospital?

He slowly sat up, finally realizing–he never left the IT department.
The disappointment hit him hard.
Alice wasn’t done.
“Mr. Hayden, are you so desperate to keep the director’s job that you passed out on purpose?”
She dragged out the words “on purpose” just to dig it in.
His face turned even darker.
Alice turned to Ruby again. “Oh right, Ms. Randall. Mr. Hayden just said he’s resigning. You
your call?” haven’t answered him

At this point, Ruby had no reason to say no, even if she wanted to.
