Troy gave a cold scoff and didn’t even look her way. He walked over to the computer and focused on the screen.
The monitor was filled with fast–moving lines of code.
But with how long he’d worked in tech, even if it moved twice as fast, he’d still follow it just fine.
Then his face drained of color the moment he figured out what the code was doing.
“No way!”
He had always been the calm one ever since he became director. It was a real shock to see him lose it like this in front of everyone.
The rest of the IT department quickly gathered to check out Alice’s screen.
At first glance, it looked like she was trying to hack the system. But now it was obvious–she was actually boosting the firewall.
The entire group looked like they’d just seen something out of a horror movie.
Noticing how weird everyone looked, Ruby’s expression turned sour.
“What’s wrong
with
you guys What’s happening?”
Alice just gave a lazy shrug. “I’m just some small–town girl. I probably don’t know what I’m doing. Maybe Mr. Hayden can clear things up.”
Troy ran a hand down his face like he was trying to snap out of it.
He inhaled sharply, then spoke through clenched teeth.
“Alice’s code wasn’t some kind of attack–it was actually fixing up the company’s firewall.
“Put simply, she wasn’t causing damage. She was doing her job and keeping our systems safe.”
Everyone was stunned.
Alice had no formal training in computer science. She was just some random girl from the countryside!

Ruby felt her head spin.
“Troy… are you sure you’re not confused?”
Troy looked down.
Honestly, he kind of wished he had messed up.

Alice gave a smug little smile and said sharply, “Ms. Randall, what’s that supposed to mean? Didn’t you just say you’d stand by me? Now that I’m cleared, why the long face?”
Ruby was dumbfounded.
She forced a stiff smile. “I … I didn’t mean anything by it.”
After a moment, she gathered herself and tried to look friendly.
“I’m just glad it was nothing serious. Just a big misunderstanding.”
She stepped up and pretended to be kind and caring.
“If it was all just a mix–up, then let’s move on.”
Alice gave a mocking laugh and took a step back to keep her distance.
“Ms. Randall, slandering someone is a criminal offense. What happened between me and Mr. Hayden is already a legal issue–it’s not something you can just shrug off.”
She looked over at Troy, her face full of sarcasm.
“What do you say, Mr. Hayden?”
Troy was still staring at the screen, clearly struggling to accept what just happened.
“Okay, even if I was wrong about that … what about that email? Everyone saw it!”
His hands curled into fists.
“You were trying to leak company info!”
Alice moved back in front of the computer. “You really won’t stop, huh? Fine. Watch carefully -I’m only showing this once!”
Then her hands flew over the keyboard.

This time, everyone saw how fast she typed. Her fingers moved like lightning.
She obviously wasn’t new to this.
At the very least, she clearly knew more than just the basics about computers.
After a bit, the black screen switched to blue, and a video popped up.
The video wasn’t complicated.
It explained exactly what Alice had done.
Turns out, she had found a weak spot in the firewall and fixed it right away.
And of course, while patching it, she had to run some tests.
The email they saw earlier was actually just part of the test.
Troy kept watching the video, his eyes going red with frustration.
By the time it ended, his eyes looked like they were about to explode.
“Mr. Hayden, while you were busy blaming me, I was just running a system test.”
Alice laughed.
“Didn’t think you’d struggle with something so basic. You’re the director of the IT department, aren’t you?”
Her voice got louder.
“All talk and no real skill.”
She didn’t hold back, and it hit hard.
Troy looked like the ground had just caved in beneath him.
He clutched his chest and went pale.
He had no words.
“Oh, right.”
As if it had just hit her, Alice pulled out a USB from the port and waved it in front of him.

“By the way, Mr. Hayden, that USB drive you gave me? It had a virus on it. Don’t worry–1 took care of it.”
She flashed a cool smile.
“No need to thank me.”
Everyone nearby was still in shock, whispering among
themselves.
“Isn’t Mr. Hayden supposed to be a tech expert? How’d he miss a virus?”
“Unless … he planted it himself.”
