Chapter 138 Pushover
Chapter 138 Pushover
Henry said nothing.
Daniel had been trying hard not to laugh this whole time. His shoulders trembled uncontrollably
By the time Eric finished talking. Daniel couldn’t hold it in any longer and burst into laughter.
Henry and Shirley looked absolutely exasperated.
In the end. Shirley had no choice but to bend down and help Irene up from the floor.
“Mrs. Irene, this isn’t working. Let’s just go home,” she said softly
Irene had thoroughly embarrassed herself today.
She knew her usual tactics had fallen flat–and without a better strategy, she had no choice but to retreat.
Let’s go she snapped.
Letting Shirley support her, Irene stormed toward the exit.
As she passed by Alice, she gritted her teeth.
“Don’t get cocky. It’s too early for you to celebrate.”

Alice tilted her head, looked her dead in the eye, and replied with a perfectly straight face. They say you should enjoy life while you still can. But here you are, living to a ripe old age and still not understanding what that really means.
Irene nearly choked on her anger.
Fortunately, Shirley had quick reflexes and dragged her away just in time.
Daniel, impressed, gave Alice a big thumbs–up.
“You are my hero.”
Eric seemed to be calculating something in his head.
Then, he said, Ten days.”
Alice raised an eyebrow. That’s about right. Sam seems pretty sharp. He might just figure it all out within ten days.”
Daniel blinked, confused.
“What are you two talking about?”
Alice didn’t answer. She just walked back to her room.
Eric wasn’t interested in explaining either. He headed into his study and picked up one of the books he hadn’t finished.
Daniel stood there for a long time before the pieces slowly started to click into place,
The crimes committed by Matt and Josh were undeniably serious, but they never did the dirty work themselves.
They just paid others to do it.
So, when an investigation was launched, there’d be no solid evidence linking them directly to the crimes,
At worst, they’d be detained for a few days before walking free
Based on what Eric said, it seemed likely that Matt and Josh–or at least their people–would be back in about ten days.

And even if they didn’t return, they had already slipped away from all the real danger.
That meant Irene would probably start acting bold again.
Daniel wasn’t too shaken by it.
After all, he’d seen a lot while working under Eric–plenty of shady deals and the worst sides of people.
Compared to some of the monsters they’d faced, Matt and Josh were practically saints.
Still, he glanced at the room.
When had Eric and Alice become so in sync?
He had worked with Eric for years, yet it took him a while to realize what Eric meant when he mentioned ten days.
But Alice? She got it immediately and even offered an analysis.
That was something else.
Daniel scratched the back of his head, struggling to find the right words.
Spencer Residence.
Scott stumbled through the front door, completely drunk.
Linda rushed to his side and helped him to the couch. Then, she told the maid to fetch something to sober him up.
Normally, Scott avoided alcohol. Scott, obsessed with racing and preferring to maintain a clear mind, rarely touched cigarettes or liquor.
In fact, it happened so rarely that most people assumed he simply didn’t drink at all.
Scott, what happened? Did something upset you?” Linda asked gently.
Gary and Charlie had heard the commotion and came downstairs.
When they saw Scott’s disheveled state, both men frowned.
“Is this about Alice again? Gary asked, clearly annoyed,
Hearing her name, Scott’s eyes started to focus.
He looked up at Gary and suddenly grew anxious.
“Gary! Gary! Please! I’ll give you everything–just help her!”
Linda looked bewildered.
“Wait.
“Wait, are you two fighting?”
Before Gary could respond, she stepped forward and patted his arm lightly.
“Gary, you’ve always been the forgiving one in the family. No matter what we do, you always let it slide. Why are you two fighting now?”
Gary hadn’t been that angry.
But the more he thought about how much he’d given up for his siblings over the years, the angrier he became. He’d finally earned a place in the national chess tournament–something he’d worked toward for years–only to have Scott come stirring up trouble again.

“It’s because of Alice, he said through clenched teeth. He wants me to give Biolan Group two entry passes to the tournament
Linda looked shocked.
“Wait Gary, are your saying-
“Scott, even I wouldn’t ask Cary for something like that. I’ve been dying to see the tournament myself, but I’m keeping my curiosity in click. And you Flow could your
Gary’s voice trembled with restrained frustration
“I put my whole heart into this. I even invited a top–level chess player to join me. This was supposed to be my moment to
shine
He paused, then continued firmly, “You’re my brother, so I won’t say more. But as for Alice–she’s a Spencer by blood. She should put the family’s interests first.
“If she understands that, she’s one of us. If not then maybe she was never meant to be part of our family
Linda’s eyes welled with tears. “Scott, Gary, please stop fighting, We used to be such a clear fareilly”
