Chapter 135 Walk Free
Chapter 135 Walk Free
Thinking back, Irene couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret.
When she first went to the company, she’d thought Levi was just a junior–easily manipulated.
Therefore, Irene brought her seal with her, figuring she could conveniently take care of the fashion department business
while she
there.
It never occurred to her that Alice had been waiting for that moment all along.
Without warning, Alice took the seal from her.
At the time, Irene wasn’t too worried. She had already crafted a plan–one that would land Alice behind bars for good.
But she had forgotten about Eric.
Eric was more ruthless than Alice; he was more ruthless than anyone she had ever known.
He didn’t stop at taking over the fashion department; Eric also used her seal to seize the criminal evidence tied to Matt and Josh.
Now, both of them were in police custody. If she refused to cooperate and didn’t help clear Alice’s name, her son and daughter–in–law would suffer,
Irene pounded the bed with a clenched fist, seething.
Why couldn’t Eric stay in a coma? Why did he have to wake up?
A doctor entered soon after to check on her.
Not long after that, two police officers came in.
“Mrs. Nolan, we need you to give a statement, one officer said firmly.
Irene rubbed her temples, the heaviness in her chest making it hard to breathe.
She coughed several times before she managed to speak.
She pressed one hand against her heart.
“There’s nothing worth making a statement about. This is all just a family maiter. The kids were fooling around. What? Was I supposed to bicker with the children? I’m their grandmother, for heaven’s sake.”
The officer asked, “Where’s your seal?”
She sighed dramatically. “My health hasn’t been great lately. I can’t sit through an entire board meeting, and neither can I handle matters in the fashion department, so naturally, I gave the seal to Alice so that she could handle things with Eric.
“Nolan Group has come a long way to get to where it is today. I couldn’t let the entire company grind to a halt just because 1 wasn’t feeling well,” she said, even dabbing at the comers of her eyes with a tissue.
“They saw I was unconscious and grew panicked. They said things they didn’t mean. We’re a family–there’s no grudge we can’t get past.
Another officer asked, “When Alice took your seal, were you unconscious?”
She had left some leeway for herself with her earlier ambiguity.
But now, faced with a direct question, Irene found herself cornered.
“No,” she said, balling her fists.

The door to the interrogation room creaked open, and Sam stepped in.
“Ms. Spencer, you’re free to go now,” he said mysteriously.
“Mr. Nolan is waiting for you outside.”
Alice raised an eyebrow. “You’re here? I figured you’d be running around so much, your shoes would catch fire
Sam chuckled a little sheepishly.
At first, he’d thought Alice was just some poor girl being used as a pawn.
Later, he began to suspect there was more to her.
Now!
He thought Alice was nothing short of brilliant.
“If you’d be willing to point me in the right direction, Ms. Spencer, Td be grateful”
Alice gave a gentle laugh, amused by his goofy expression.
“I don’t think you need my help,” she said. “But when you’re investigating cases, don’t just trust what’s on the surface.”
Sam blinked. “What do you mean?”
Alice stood and strolled to the door.
She turned to him and said calmly, “Just because someone looks guilty doesn’t mean they are.”
Sam was stunned. But after a beat, it all clicked.
Eric’s evidence had answered a lot of unresolved questions.
But there were still a few details that didn’t quite add up.
“Ms. Spencer, you’re amazing,” he said, still in awe.
Alice didn’t respond. She simply walked away.
Truthfully, she had been so busy lately that she hadn’t had a proper break in ages. Ironically, the time in the interrogation room had allowed her to catch her breath.
She felt more clear–headed than ever.
“Oh, wait, Sam called after her.
“Ms. Spencer, Scott wanted me to tell you he’s really sorry he couldn’t help you.”
Alice paused, then gave him a faint smile.
“Mr. Morant,” she said gently, her tone incredibly soft.
Just focus on doing your job right. That’s all that matters.”
Sam froze.
He met her gaze

Her eyes were clear and firm. Clearly, she had nothing to hide.
“M–Ms. Spencer, 1….
“You don’t have to walk me,” she said, her tone kind but firm. “Get back to work.”
Then, she walked away.
Sam finally snapped out of it and smacked himself on the forehead,
Had Alice already figured out he was trying to cover for Scott?
The truth was, Scott hadn’t been able to help. After Matt and Josh were arrested, he’d asked Sam for details.
Sam didn’t know much, so Scout gave up and left the hospital.
He thought if Alice were his sister, maybe he would’ve swallowed his pride and begged Irene to get her out.
Sigh!
He gave his own head a final par
Other people’s family messes weren’t his to fix. He’d better focus on solving cases.
When Alice finally stepped outside, the first thing she saw was Daniel standing in front of the car, waving at her enthusiastically.
