At least she’d managed to get Eugenia to leave for now.
Right before the end of the day, the Finance Department transferred money to everyone in the IT Department
Now when the IT Department looked at Alice, it was like they were staring at a walking pile of gold.
When she stepped out of her office, they all practically gave her a standing ovation with their eyes.
Alice felt a little awkward under the attention and rubbed her forehead.
“If you’re done with your work, you can head home. I’m not going to force anyone to stay late.”
The company hadn’t officially appointed a new director yet.
For now, Alice was the highest–ranking person there.
Whatever she said, went.
The entire IT Department burst out cheering.
Alice was baffled. “Is leaving on time really worth celebrating that much?”
One of the employees laughed.
“For us tech folks, getting off on time is like a sunny day. But unfortunately, since I started working, it’s been nothing but
rain.”
Hearing that, everyone else cracked up too.
Alice thought about it. “Alright then, let’s set up a rotating on–call schedule. From now on, unless it’s something important, only two people need to stay to handle it.”
She figured it should work. She’d recently fixed up Nolan Group’s systems.
Unless some top–level hacker showed up–or another insider like Sandy–there shouldn’t be any big issues.
As soon as she finished talking, the employees practically bounced in place with excitement.
If it hadn’t been for her Mrs. Nolan status, they probably would have picked her up and carried her around in celebration.
Seeing their eyes practically glowing green with happiness, Alice felt a bit helpless.
Nolan Group’s messed–up policies had really pushed them to the brink.
She gave them a few quick reminders not to disturb other departments, then headed out of the building
She texted Eric to say he didn’t need to wait for her to come home for dinner, then grabbed a cab to the hotel Risa had picked
Risa was in a meeting, but as soon as she heard Alice was there, she wrapped it up early.
When Alice walked into the hotel, she ran right into Levi and Boston.
Levi was dressed in a silver suit, his hair slicked back with gel–the picture of a flashy young guy.
He was handsome, and his fans called him their “sunny boy”
Boston, standing next to him, looked more mature by comparison.

They were surrounded by more than a dozen bodyguards each.
Normally, someone like Alice–a ‘nobody–wouldn’t even register on their radar, but somehow, someone had told them who
she was.
Levi stopped and looked at her.
You’re Mrs. Nolan from Nolan Group?”
Alice had no choice but to nod. “Yeah. What’s up?”
Levi actually looked surprised. “Weren’t you here to see me?”
Alice pointed at her watch. Tm meeting someone here. My time’s almost up.”
Levi glanced over at Boston.
Boston’s face darkened. “You’re coming to beg for help with that attitude!”
That’s when Alice realized.
These two thought she was there to beg Levi not to expose Nolan Group, and because she was just a ‘country girl they figured she was too shy to admit it and had come up with a lame excuse.
Alice was speechless.
Har telling the truth really this hard these days?
Boston looked at her with open disdain.
“Let me warn you–don’t go around using my name to scam people!”
He wasn’t even really talking to her; he was making sure Levi heard him. Whatever Alice did had nothing to do with him.
Levi narrowed his eyes, already figuring out what kind of relationship this brother and sister had.
He gave a gentle smile.
“Since Mrs. Nolan wasn’t here to see me, then I guess I was the one intruding. Sorry about that.”
Alice replied coolly. “So, can you move now?”
Levi hadn’t expected her to be so blunt. She didn’t even try to bring up the Nolans‘ business, which made things a little awkward for him.
Luckily, his manager quickly signaled for the bodyguards to step aside and said, “Look, we’re here to protect Levi, but let’s not block other people’s way. Move aside.”
Alice gave the manager an extra glance before turning and walking off.
Boston’s assistant let out a cold laugh.
“She’ll probably just wander around the lobby and leave. She’s just a country girl–who’d she know that actually stays here?”
Right then, they saw a man in sunglasses step out of the elevator and greet Alice with deep respect.
Levi’s manager blinked in surprise.
“Why do I feel like that guy looks familiar!”
Levi was a little stunned too
As he watched Alice get in the elevator with the man, he finally said slowly, “I think he’s Risa’s top assistant.”

The manager gasped.
“That assistant seemed really respectful to her just now!”
Levi couldn’t help clutching his chest a little.

If that was true, then the person Alice was going to meet was probably Risa herself, and Risa was the director they’d been begging for ages to notice them.
Just getting any role in one of her dramas was basically a free pass to early retirement.
