Chapter 64 Find Out Something
Aelira’s POV
“Alarion, what brings you back?” Cyrinne’s voice cuts through from behind
me, laced with surprise.
I pivot to see her rushing toward Alarion, who stands in the hallway, equally
taken aback by her presence.
“Weren’t you supposed to be at a meeting today?” she continues,
positioning herself directly in front of him as if to shield him from me.
Alarion’s amber eyes narrow in confusion. “What are you doing here?”
Cyrinne dramatically places her hand on her slightly rounded belly.

“Roderic mentioned that your mother’s condition has improved and asked
me to come help decorate her room. He believes that if Esther is released
from the hospital, she’ll be more comfortable.”
I stifle the urge to scoff. The irony is nearly unbearable. Here stands
Cyrinne, the very person who likely poisoned my mother–in–law, feigning
concern for her comfort.

However, as I watch their interaction unfold, another thought crosses my
mind. A brief image I caught through the crack in Esther’s door resurfaces.
If Cyrinne is here to decorate my mother–in–law’s room, then who is the
woman with Roderic?
An outrageous idea takes root in my mind, but I quickly dismiss it. That

can’t be true. I must be overthinking it. Plus, Cyrinne is pregnant now. It couldn’t possibly be her.

“Is my mother feeling better?” Alarion asks, his expression brightening with
hope.
I observe how Alarion’s brow smooths out at Cyrinne’s remarks, and it pains me to witness how effortlessly she influences him.
“I haven’t visited Esther at the hospital lately, but I talked to Roderic…” Cyrinne dramatically pauses, then possessively takes hold of Alarion’s arm. “How about we head to the hospital later to visit your mother and share the news of my pregnancy? I’m sure she would be thrilled, and she
might even wake up.”
I narrow my gaze, a shiver coursing through me. If my mother–in–law learns that Cyrinne claims to be pregnant with Alarion’s child, she wouldn’t feel joy–she would be furious enough to lose consciousness. Esther has always been able to see through Cyrinne’s schemes.
Alarion appears to catch my expression as he pulls his arm away from Cyrinne’s grip. He knows well that his mother has a greater disdain for Cyrinne than anyone else.
“Let’s discuss it another time when we have more time,” he replies, his
voice noticeably colder.

Now that Alarion is back, my chance of searching Esther’s room evaporates. My attempt has failed before it had the opportunity to begin.
“I’ll go first,” I declare, pivoting towards the stairs.
Alarion steps in my direction. “I’ll accompany you…”
“No need,” I interrupt sharply.

As I turn to leave, I hear Cyrinne’s piercing voice behind me. “What are you doing? She doesn’t even appreciate your efforts, yet you still shamelessly approach her…”
“What are you saying?” Alarion’s irritated voice travels down the hallway.
“Alright, alright, I’m just rambling,” Cyrinne quickly retracts.
Their argument fades as I rush down the stairs, eager to create as much
distance as possible between us.
Halfway down, a sudden, intense pain seizes my lower abdomen. I gasp and grip the banister for support, my knees buckling under the pressure.
“No, no, no,” I whisper, one hand instinctively resting on my belly.
I make my way to the bottom of the stairs before another wave of pain strikes. This time, I sense something warm and wet between my legs.
Looking down in horror, I see a small red stain spreading across my light-
colored pants.
Blood. I’m bleeding.
Panic grips me as I stumble out the front door, fumbling for my mobile phone with trembling fingers. Roderic’s rough shove against the wall must have inflicted more damage than I’d initially realized.
“Please, please be okay,” I murmur to my unborn pup as I dial Oriana.
She picks up on the second ring. “Hey, what’s going on? Are you still at the
Riven house?”
“Oriana,” my voice falters. “I’m bleeding. I need to reach Aethervale Hospital

Her cheerful tone disappears instantly. “Where exactly are you? I’m on my
way.”
“I’m at the main entrance of the Riven pack house,” I explain, sinking onto a
decorative stone bench. “Please hurry.”
“I’m on my way right now. Stay calm and don’t move, okay? Everything will
be fine.”
But as another cramp hits me, I start to doubt her assurances.
After an agonizing fifteen minutes, Oriana’s car screeches to a stop in
front of me. She jumps out and rushes to my side, her face pale with
anxiety.
“Can you walk?” she asks while helping me up.
I nod, gritting my teeth against the pain. “Just get me to the hospital.”
The journey to Aethervale Hospital feels like a haze of worry and silent prayers. I press one hand against my belly, hoping that my sheer will can somehow keep my tiny pup safe within.
“What is going on?” Oriana inquires, her grip on the steering wheel tight and
her knuckles pale.
“Roderic shoved me against a wall,” I reply, grimacing as another cramp
grips me. “I thought everything was fine, but then I started bleeding as I
was leaving.”
Oriana’s expression hardens with fury. “That jerk. If you lose this pup

“Don’t,” I interrupt, unable to entertain that thought. “Just drive faster.”
Upon arriving at the hospital, I am quickly directed to the Obstetrics and
Gynecology department. The doctor, a kind–eyed, middle–aged female werewolf, performs an ultrasound with a reassuring efficiency.
I hold my breath as she glides the wand over my abdomen, looking for any
sign of my pup’s heartbeat. Each second feels like an endless stretch of
anxiety.
And then–a rapid, steady pulsing fills the air. My pup’s heartbeat is strong
and resilient.
“Your baby is still viable,” the doctor declares, and relief washes over me as
I nearly collapse.
Tears well up in my eyes as I gaze at the tiny figure on the screen–my pup,
alive despite all odds.
“However,” the doctor continues, her expression becoming serious, “you’ve
experienced what’s termed a threatened miscarriage. The bleeding suggests that the placenta may have partially detached from the uterine
wall.”
The brief sense of relief dissipates. “What does that imply? Am I going to
lose the baby?”
She adjusts her glasses, carefully selecting her words. “Not necessarily.
Many women who face threatened miscarriages go on to deliver healthy
babies. However, your pregnancy is now classified as high–risk.”

“Bed rest for at least the next two weeks. Avoid any strenuous activities,
eliminate stress, and take a break from work.” She scribbles something on a prescription pad. “I’m prescribing supplements to strengthen the uterine wall and support the pregnancy. I also want you to return in three days for
a follow–up.”
I nod, ready to do whatever it takes to safeguard my unborn pup.
After dressing and filling my prescription, Oriana and I head toward the hospital exit. Although drained, I feel determined. Two weeks of bed rest is
a minor price to pay for my pup’s safety.
“We’ll swing by Verdant Moon to request a leave of absence, and then we’ll
head straight home,” Oriana explains as we walk through the hospital
lobby.
I’m about to agree when I catch sight of them–Alarion and Cyrinne,
approaching the elevators. My steps hesitate.
“Let’s take another route,” I whisper to Oriana, attempting to turn away.
But it’s too late. Cyrinne has already spotted us, her emerald eyes lighting
up with malicious glee at who is just exiting.
“Aelira!” she exclaims loudly enough to attract the attention of several
people in the lobby. “What a coincidence! We’re here to visit Alarion’s
mother.”
Alarion looks uneasy, his amber gaze shifting between Cyrinne and me.
“Let’s just go,” I mutter to Oriana, but Cyrinne has already approached us,

Her gaze shifts pointedly to the Obstetrics and Gynecology sign above the department doors before returning to me.
A cruel smile forms on her lips as she feigns sweetness, asking, “Did you just come from the OB–GYN department? Don’t tell me you’re pregnant
too?”
