Chapter 150 Alarion Comes Again
Aelira’s POV
As I walk, my pace slows when I spot a familiar silhouette propped against the sleek Thunder Pack SUV. From across the parking lot, Alarion’s golden eyes lock onto mine, and even at this distance, his Alpha energy is unmistakably resolute.
“Aelira?” Jastor’s worried tone snaps me back to the present. “Are you okay?”
I manage a smile for him, although inside, my wolf is whining uneasily at the sight of Alarion.
“I’m alright, I just need a minute to deal with something.”
Jastor tracks my stare over to Alarion, and comprehension darkens his features. He instinctively draws nearer, his protectiveness evident.
“Want me to stick around?” he murmurs
“No need. I’ll be quick.”
Though Jastor hesitates, he eventually gives me space, inching back toward the building while his scent betrays his concern as he keeps an eye on me.
Drawing in a steadying breath, I head over to Alarion, each step measured. My expectant wolf tenses at the familiar mix of cedar and storm that clings to him.
“Why are you here?” I question, maintaining an even tone despite the turmoil inside.
Alarion stands upright, abandoning his relaxed posture, and studies my expression closely.
“I came for you.” he answers plainly. “We have to talk.”
“Talk about what? I thought I was clear last time,
“It’s about the flowers,” he says, a trace of hurt pride in his voice, “I saw you toss them out.”
Embarrassment burns on my cheeks as I realize he witnessed me discarding his pricey bouquet.
“Sending those roses wasn’t appropriate, Alarion. You can’t keep crossing boundaries like this.”
His jaw clenches, frustration etched across his face.
“Inappropriate? I’m just trying to show you how much you mean to me, how badly I want to fix things.”
“There’s nothing left to fix,” I reply firmly, instinctively shielding my stomach: “I’ve moved forward. You should do the same.”
At my gesture, Alarion’s gaze sharpens dangerously.
“Is that true, Aelira? Or are you simply running because you’re afraid?”
“Afraid of what, exactly?”
“Afraid to give us another shot. Afraid to admit our connection was genuine.”
A bitter laugh escapes me.
“What we had was me loving you while you ignored me for two years. That’s not something I’m willing to repeat.”
Alarion closes the gap between us; his Alpha presence buzzes with urgency.
“I know I messed up. I made mistakes that haunt me every day. But the incident at the warehouse changed me.”
“Barely surviving doesn’t erase years of being neglected, Alarion.”
“Then what will?” he pleads, his voice cracking. “What can I do to prove my love to you?”
His anguish makes my chest tighten, but I remind myself of all those nights I cried alone, feeling invisible.
“Some wounds can’t be healed by words or grand gestures,” I reply softly.

“So you’re just throwing away everything we had? Our mate bond might be broken, but those feelings don’t just vanish overnight.”
“You’re right, they don’t fade instantly,” I admit. “And that’s exactly why I know this can’t work.”
Alarion’s expression is full of bewilderment at my reply.
“Despite everything you’ve put me through–all the pain and embarrassment–I still have feelings for you,” I press on, my tone gaining resolve. “And that frightens me.”
A spark of hope flares in his golden eyes.
“If you still feel this way, then perhaps=”
“No,” I cut in, my voice unwavering. “Caring for you doesn’t mean I should subject myself to more suffering. It means I need. to guard myself from repeating the same error.”
He visibly deflates as my words hit home.
“I would never hurt you again, Aelira. I swear it.”
“You made that promise before our marking ceremony, too.”
The memory seems to strike him hard. His shoulders slump as he recalls the vows he made on our wedding day.
“This is about Daelor, isn’t it?” Alarion suddenly demands, his voice edged with accusation. “You’ve already moved on to him.”
“This isn’t about Daelor or anyone else. This is about the two of us, and the reality that we simply don’t belong together.”
“We could make it work if you’d just give us a real chance!
“Alarion, enough I snap, my patience finally gone. “I’m carrying another Alpha’s child. How do you expect this situation to play out?”
My words hang in the air, creating a distance between us. Alarion’s face cycles through shock, anguish, and finally, a
stubborn resolve.
ir own.
“I told you before–I don’t care whose child it is. I struggle with fertility anyway. We could raise this pup as our
“Do you hear yourself? I respond, incredulous. “You’re suggesting we build our relationship on deception and denial.”
“It wouldn’t be false if we both truly wanted it.”
“But I don’t want that!” My voice rises in frustration, “I refuse to live my life‘ worried you’ll change your mind one day. I don’t want my child growing up in a home where they’re resented by their own father.”
It’s as if my words physically wound him.
“I would never—”
“You resented me for not conceiving quickly enough,” I remind him, my tone icy. “What makes you think you wouldn’t resent a child who isn’t yours?”
“That’s not fair, Aelira. You know I never-
“Never what? Never made me feel like I wasn’t enough? Never compared me to Cyrinne? Never let me know I was always second best?”
Each statement lands with force. His Alpha scent shifts, signaling real regret and pain.
“I’m sorry,” he chokes out, emotion thickening his voice. I’m so fucking sorry for everything.”
The sincerity in his apology almost makes me falter. Almost.
“I know,” I say softly. “And I do forgive you, Alarion. But forgiveness doesn’t mean I’m willing to put myself back into that Situation.”
“So this is it? You’re just going to leave it all behind?”

“I already left. Two weeks ago, when our mate bond was broken, this talk should have happened sooner.” Alarion remains rooted in place, unable to fully grasp that I’m truly ending things for good.
“Please,” he finally manages, his pride utterly gone. “Just think about it. Don’t decide forever just yet.”
“I’ve had plenty of time to consider. My choice is made.”
I turn to head toward the company building, but his voice calls out, halting me.

“What about the child?” he pleads, desperation clear. “Doesn’t the pup have a right to know their Alpha father?”
Thesitate, but don’t look back.
“The pup will recognize their father,” I murmur. “Just not you.”
With those final words, I leave Alarion Riven behind, hoping this is the last time our paths cross. As I move away, the sound of his SUV door slamming and the engine revving unnecessarily loud reaches my ears.
Jastor catches up to me as I arrive at the company doors.
“Are y
you all right?” he asks, his voice full of gentle concern.
“I will be,” I answer truthfully.
“Do
you
still want to get lunch? We could leave work talk aside if you’d rather have some space.”
His kindness makes me pause, appreciating his support. Strangely, my confrontation with Alarion hasn’t left me shaken- it’s actually solidified my determination.
“I’d actually like to go over those project ideas. Focusing on work is probably just what I need.”
Relief spreads over Jastor’s face as he grins and offers his arm in a gracious, old–fashioned way.
“In that case, I know just the spot for a working lunch. Their herb–crusted salmon is outstanding.”
Heading toward his car with him, a sense of finality and peace settles over me. The exchange with Alarion was difficult but
necessary.
For the first time since the divorce was settled, I genuinely feel free.
