Chapter 129 Unreasonable Request
Aelira’s POV
That memory was so trivial that, if Daelor hadn’t reminded me, it would never have entered my mind. The revelation stirs my wolf from within, unsettled by this old, nearly forgotten thread.
As I remain dumbfounded, Daelor’s lips curve in a gentle smile, his silver–gray eyes filled with warmth,
“I remember thinking, “What a remarkable little she–wolf she is,” he says quietly. “So I lingered backstage, watching you deliver your speech, trying to appear composed even though my heart was racing.”
Affection colors Daelor’s words, his Alpha scent shifting with the change in his mood.
“I can’t say exactly when, but as I watched you on that stage, you slowly became a part of me, and you never left.”
My mouth moves involuntarily, yet no words come. My pregnant wolf lets out a quiet, plaintive sound, overwhelmed by the
torrent of emotions.
All I can do is lower my head, biting my lip, wordless.
Daelor takes no offense. Instead, he gestures toward the photos lining the hallway.
“In truth, I started taking those pictures of you as a way to confess how I felt,” he says softly. “But…”
He trails off, not finishing. Still, I understand what he means.
At that time, I was utterly consumed by thoughts of Alarion, I’d chased after him with unwavering focus,
Of course, I had been blind to anyone else’s care.
“So, over the years, those photos gradually added up,” Daelor goes on, his smile gentle.
He holds my gaze
“But in the end, they’ve fulfilled their purpose at last.
As soon as my gaze meets Daelor’s, I immediately avert my eyes. My heart blazes with intensity, though strangely, my wolf stays composed in the face of his overwhelming Alpha aura.
Still, reason insists that I can’t reciprocate his heartfelt admission.
Grown–up love is no longer something as simple as a passing whim. There are too many complications to weigh.
I wrestle with confusion, unable to grasp why Daelor would choose this moment to confess.
For him, these feelings are nothing short of disastrous. If we were to return his affection, the danger would only spiral out of control.
But looking back at Daelor, I catch the hope in his eyes. He seems to believe that with just a simple nod from me, a future filled with happiness awaits us both.
Could this possibly be happening?
The Briarhallow family would never accept a she–wolf who had broken her mate bond as their Luna–especially with me carrying a pup whose father remains a mystery.
Just thinking about the child is like being doused with icy water. The chill seeps through me, but it brings a sharp clarity. At that instant, my phone rings, providing an escape from the tension.
It’s Jornic, my brother. I glance up at Daelor, but before I can utter a word, he lifts his chin.
Take the call first,” he instructs.
I nod and answer.
“Hello, Jornic?”
Chapter 129 Unreasonable Request
“Aelira, where are you?” His tone is fraught with urgency.
“I’m still outside. Did something happen?”
Jomic pauses briefly.
“Come home first. There’s something important I need to discuss with you.”
“What is it?” I ask, frowning, puzzled, why he can’t just tell me now.
“You’ll find out once you’re back. Please hurry.”
I have no choice but to agree.
“Alright, I’ll return immediately.”
After ending the call, I turn toward Daelor, who stands by the window.
He notices I’ve finished and offers me a smile.
“Come on. I’ll drive you back to Myrthale Residences.”
During the drive in Daelor’s upscale SUV, silence hangs between us.
Now that all the unspoken feelings have surfaced, an odd tension settles in, making it difficult to face him. My wolf lets out a quiet whimper inside.
We were once nothing more than classmates. Now, everything is tangled and messy.
Soon, we arrive at the underground garage.
“Don’t let today make you feel uncomfortable,” Daelor says, picking up on my unease. He offers a gentle smile. “Things don’t have to change between us.”
His commanding Alpha scent envelopes me.
“I’ll keep pursuing you, and you just go on living as usual. Don’t dwell on it too much. In time, you’ll get used to it.”
I’m at a loss for words How could I possibly adjust to this?
Forcing a stiff smile, I feel my cheeks freeze.
I make my way upstairs in the elevator, offer a quick goodbye, and rush into my apartment.
Once the door closes behind me, I lean against it, hand pressed to my pounding heart. My face is aflame.
“Aelira, what happened? Why is your face so flushed?”
Aunt Betty steps out of her room, her face etched with concern. She reaches over to check my forehead. “Are you running a fever?”
“No,” I intercept her hand. “I ran up the stairs, and the elevator was warm. I just started sweating.”
Aunt Belly eyes me doubtfully.
Worried she’ll probe further, I hurriedly change the topic.
“Is Jornic home? Has he returned?”
“He’s back–resting in your room!”
A deep crease forms on my forehead. Since reaching adulthood, my mother has insisted that Jornic and I keep to our own rooms. She has always strictly prohibited Jornic from setting foot into my bedroom.
The thought of Jornic lying on my bed unsettles me.
Yet, I realize there’s little choice. This apartment only offers three bedrooms.
With Jarnic injured, he requires a place to recuperate.

I push aside my unease and head for my bedroom.
Catching sight of Jomic sprawled across my bed in grimy clothes sends a tingling sensation through my scalp.
“Jornic, why are you on my bed wearing those dirty clothes?”
With a defensive frown, my brother glances down at his stained outfit before pouting.
“That’s what you’re worried about? After what I’ve endured today, where would I find the strength to change?”
He waves me off dismissively.
“You can always wash the bedding later, can’t you?”
I exhale slowly, holding back my irritation,
“You mentioned you had something urgent to discuss. What is it?”
Jomic presses his lips together, then meets my eyes with a serious gaze.
“Aelira, you need to form a new mark with Alarion.”
I stare at him’in disbelief. “What did you just say, Jornic?”
He looks annoyed by my response.
“Why are you making such a fuss? Didn’t you hear me? I said you should re–mark with Alarion.”
I automatically shake my head.
“No. I won’t do that.
After finally breaking the mate bond with Alarion, the thought of repeating that ordeal is unthinkable.
Could Alarion have intimidated Jomic?
“Did Alarion threaten you?” I ask
Jomic impatiently waves the question away.
“No one forced me. I simply believe he’s a worthy Alpha, and you two suit each other.”
He pauses, then adds his most compelling reason.
“Besides, you’re carrying his pup. Even just for the child’s sake, you should re–mark.”
“Carrying his pup?”
Nearby, Aunt Betty stares at me, shocked.
“Aelira, is it true you’re pregnant?”
A headache begins to form as I wonder how Jornic discovered my secret.
Aunt Betty instantly surrounds me with excited questions, her face glowing with happiness.
“How could you keep something as important as a pregnancy from us, child? This is such wonderful news!”
She peppers me with questions about how far along I am, worrying that my belly isn’t showing much. She immediately
insists on buying venison to make stew for me, stressing the need for good nutrition while expecting.
She then urges me to make amends with Alarion and re–mark, seeing his actions as proof of his care for me.
I cut her off resolutely.
Aunt Betty, please stop trying to convince me. I refuse to re–mark with Alarion.”
Aunt Betty freezes, then asks about the baby.
*rl give birth and raise my child on my own.”

My answer upsets her, and she exclaims, “Don’t be foolish! What nonsense is this? How can you possibly raise a pup by yourself? A she–wolf without an Alpha is lost–she can’t survive.”
Before I can reply, Jornic jumps in..
“Aunt Betty’s right, Aelira. Don’t be so hardheaded. Just re–mark with Alarion already, so he leaves us in peace!”
I snap back, “I told you, I won’t do it!”
Jornic scoffs, his tone turning icy.
one, you need to listen to me!”
That’s not your decision! With Mom and Dad gone,
I shoot back, “Why should I obey you?”
“Because I’m your older brother, that’s why!”
Before I can finish defending myself, Aunt Betty swiftly seizes my arm.
“Enough. Stop quarreling with Jornic! He’s acting in your best interests. You have to think about the pup you’re carrying. What if your anger puts the baby at risk?”
Although Aunt Betty seems to be trying to calm things down, it’s obvious to me that she’s taking Jornic’s side.
I see this as typical behavior from her. She always stands by Jornic, no matter who is actually right.
“I refuse to go through a re–marking, I announce with icy resolve, turning away.
It’s clear to me that I can’t remain in this apartment any longer.
I won’t have any peace as long as Aunt Betty’s family is around.
