Chapter 124 Belong to Me (2)
Alarion slips one hand casually into his pocket, a faint, unsettling smirk playing at his lips.
His Alpha aura continues to dominate every inch of the room.
In that instant, he reverts to the icy, conceited Alpha I recall from our most difficult moments. “Aelira, I’ll have you searching for me,” he declares, his voice brimming with cold assurance.

That danger in his words makes my wolf whine nervously inside me.
I swing the door open even further, gesturing sharply for him to leave.
“Out. Right now,”
Ale long strides carry him slowly toward the exit.
Yet, he halts abruptly at the doorway, turning back for one last look at me.
“I’ll be waiting for you to reach out,” he says, completely certain.
After those foreboding words, he finally departs.
I slam the door shut so hard the noise reverberates down the hall. The sound is satisfying, but my anger still burns.
My wolf continues to whine anxiously, shaken by the whole encounter and the threat Alarion now poses.
His parting words leave an uneasy feeling twisting in my chest.
I know Alarion well enough to realize he never threatens without intent. If he’s said something so severe, he has a plan in
mind.
But I can’t begin to guess what Alarion actually wants to do!
The uncertainty eats away at me.
“Aelira…
While I’m lost in anxious thoughts, Aunt Betty suddenly opens her bedroom door and steps out.
She hurries to the front door, swings it open, and scans the now–empty corridor.
“Why did you let Alarion leave?” she demands, her voice tinged with disappointment.
“Aunt Betty, please don’t meddle in my affairs with him,” I reply wearily.
“How could I not care? my aunt says, frowning deeply. “With Alarion’s Alpha rank and lineage, he could have any she–wolf
he wants!
growes
Her tone grows sharper with frustration.
“It’s such a rare chance for him to want to mark you again! Why did you drive him away?”
“We’re finished,” I answer plainly.
With exasperation, Aunt Betty lifts her hand and pats my arm.
“You’re being completely irrational!” she exclaims. “Now that your bond is broken, finding another Alpha of his caliber will be nearly impossible!”
She launches into another round of lecturing.
“You ought to reconcile with someone like Alarion. He’s not just attractive and wealthy–his bloodline and personality are already known to you.”
I can feel my patience fraying dangerously.
*And besides, I think he’s truly remorseful for what he did,” she persists. “And you can’t put all the blame for your mother’s incident on Alarion. That scheming she–wolf Cyrinne was the real cause!”

“Aunt Betty!” I cut her off sharply.

Listening to her increasingly outrageous statements makes my pregnant wolf uneasy and stressed.
“That’s enough. I’m exhausted and need to rest,” I say firmly. “You should get some sleep, too.”
“You really ought to reconsider,” she insists stubbornly. “They say a changed Alpha is more valuable than gold. Chances like this don’t come often!”
I pay no attention to my aunt at all. I simply turn my back on her and head straight for my own room.
As soon as the door is closed behind me, I exhale a long breath, feeling a surge of relief.
No matter what else happens, I am absolutely determined to send my aunt and her family away tomorrow. If they remain here any longer, I worry I’ll completely lose my mind from their meddling.
I stretch out on my bed, gazing up at the ceiling in a daze for several minutes.
Then I recall my promise to Daelor about our plans for tomorrow, so I reach over and switch off the light by my bedside.
Pulling the blanket up over my head, I force myself to try to fall asleep.
Sleep doesn’t leave me until late the next morning. Perhaps it’s my pregnancy, but not only do I rest much longer than usual–l also sleep more deeply than I can remember in a long time.
After the confrontation last night, my wolf finally feels calm.
When someone starts knocking persistently at the front door, I am still half–asleep, my thoughts clouded with drowsiness.
It takes me a few moments to understand what’s going on.
I wipe the sleep from my eyes and shuffle over to open the door.
The instant she sees me, Aunt Betty bursts out, “Aelira, something awful has happened! Your brother’s in big trouble!”
Hearing this, I’m suddenly wide awake. Instantly, my wolf is on high alert..
“What is wrong with Jornic?” I ask urgently.
Aunt Betty’s hands are trembling, and she’s on the verge of tears.
“Just moments ago, Jomic called me from a phone number I didn’t know,” she says quickly. “He told me that a pack of wolves barged into his hospital room out of nowhere.”
My heart sinks as she continues.
“They knocked him out cold before he could react. When he regained consciousness, he found himself somewhere completely unfamiliar.
“The wolves who are guarding him ordered him to contact his family and said you’d know what to do!”
My mind races, and suddenly, Alarion’s chilling words from last night come back to me as clear as day.
*Aelira, I’ll make sure you have to come searching for me.”
“I’ll be waiting for you to call.”
The truth hits me with the force of a physical blow.
“Aelira, who did you cross?” Aunt Betty asks, her voice full of fear, eyes rimmed red. “Will Jornic be alright? What kind of mess have you dragged our family into?”
Fighting my own rising panic, I try to calm her down.
“Don’t worry, Aunt Betty. Jornic will be okay,” I reply, trying to sound much more certain than I really am.
Taking a steadying breath, I turn back and snatch my phone from the nightstand.
I locate Alarion’s contact and hit the call button, my hand unsteady.

He picks up after just two rings, as if he’s been expecting me.
I can’t hold my anger back anymore.
“Alarion, what is it you really want?”
