Chapter 122 Confession from Alarion (2)
Aunt Betty gives me a reprimanding glare, her motherly dominance coming to the forefront,
“Is that any way to speak?” she chastises. “A mate–bond lasts a lifetime! Of course, Alarion would come to see your
Her interference makes me bristle; the last thing I want is my aunt encouraging Alarion to stay.
“Aunt Betty!”
But she’s already reaching for Alarion’s arm, attempting to physically draw him in my direction.
“You two need to have a proper conversation,” she declares with the authority of the pack’s traditions. “Why would you even consider breaking a mate bond?”
Immediately, I jerk away from Alarion’s extended hand, retreating a step to guard myself.
Inside, my wolf whimpers uneasily, wary of the overwhelming Alpha dominance he exudes.
“Aunt Betty, can we speak privately?” I plead, anxious to remove her from the escalating tension.
“Of course, dear“” She offers me a knowing smile and a nod. “Have your talk. I’ll be in my room.”
Heading to the bedroom, she gently ushers Maria–who’s peeking out in curiosity–back inside.
The door shuts with a gentle but unmistakable click.
Left alone with Alarion, I let out a slow breath, realizing how unwise it was to have my aunt’s family staying here in such
turbulent times.
“Aelira…” Alarion’s voice is low and rough, his mouth pressed into a tight, grim line.
His brows are drawn together, showing the pressure of whatever desperate scheme he’s plotting..
His gaze drops meaningfully to my midsection, a brief, possessive light flickering in his eyes.
That look sets my wolf on edge, ready to bolt.
Deliberately, I ignore his intense stare and ask icily, “Explain yourself. Why are you here?”
My hand instinctively shields my stomach, where my unborn pup grows.
“Let’s renew our marks,” he announces bluntly.
Those words strike me like a blow.
“Excuse me?” I’m stunned, unable to process what he’s suggesting.
Inside, my wolf cries out in protest at his brazen demand.
Has Alarion lost all sense?
“I’m saying we should be re–marked,” Alarion repeats, clearly articulating every word.
His Alpha aura spreads through the room, charged with his urgency and resolve.
Disbelief twists into anger, and I let out a derisive laugh
“Are you drunk, spouting nonsense? You’re not wanted here. Get out of my territory,” I snap.
didn’t come to negotiate, only to inform you,” Alarion replies, his attitude shifting–his desperation and instability almost palpable.
His Alpha scent intensifies, saturating the air with a dangerous threat.
I’m so furious that laughter bubbles up, uncontrollable.
“Oh? You actually think you can force me?” I counter.
Alarion’s smile is cold, never reaching his eyes. The wildness of his wolf lurks just beneath the surface of his civility.

“It isn’t out of the question,” he responds, his voice disturbingly even.
A deep frown carves into my face; I sense something deeply wrong in Alarion’s mind tonight.
My expectant wolf is acutely attuned to his menacing aura; every fiber of my being urges me to escape.
He is nothing like his typical, calm, and dignified Alpha persona. Instead, an urgent savagery radiates from him, reminiscent of a wild animal trapped with no way out.
Drawing in a steadying breath, I make myself stay composed, even as my wolf spirals with fear.
Above all else, the safety of my unborn pup must remain my top priority.
It is clear to me that facing Alarion directly would only spell disaster for a pregnant she wolf as fragile as I am.
I must attempt to reason with him, hoping to stop him from making rash decisions in his current, unstable state.
I
“What are you really after, Alarion?” I inquire cautiously, striving to keep my tone even. “You were the one who insisted on ending our mate bond before. Now suddenly you insist we mark each other again…
Alarion cuts me off, his words rough and barely controlled by emotion. “You’re all I’ve been able to think about these last few days.
His Alpha scent grows stronger, nearly overpowering in the small room.
“I kept remembering the first meal you prepared for me, how you helped me dress for those formal pack events, the surprise you planned for my birthday…”
The look in his eyes is so intense that my wolf yearns to yield, despite everything that has transpired.
“What is it you’re trying to tell me?” I press, though dread twists in my stomach at the thought of his reply.
“I like you.”
I go completely still, shock washing all expression from my face.
Alarion’s gaze bores into me, his dominant Alpha presence crowding every inch of my apartment.
“Aelira Sunmere, I like you. In fact, I’ve liked you for ages!”
He continues, voice raw with regret, “I was arrogant, foolish enough to believe you’d stay by my side no matter how badly I treated you. Maybe it was because your affection seemed so easy to win that I failed to value it the way I should have…”
Regaining my composure, I’m only met with a deep, painful sense of irony.
