The heavy burden that has weighed down my heart for weeks finally lifts, leaving me feeling
rejuvenated and energized.
Having left the pack servant’s apartment, I make my way back to the herbal remedy company with Daelor. Today marks the day of interviews for new herbalists, and I hadn’t intended to get involved due
to my earlier somber mood. However, with my spirits rising, I choose to take part.
“I believe I want to assist with the interviews after all,” I communicate to Daelor as we arrive at the
entrance of the company.
His silver–gray eyes shine with approval. “That’s great. Your knowledge will be essential.”
Once we arrive at the company, Daelor addresses George Leach with a natural commanding presence.
“You will accompany Aelira and support her in whatever she requires.”
“Of course, Alpha Daelor,” George responds with a respectful bow.
After Daelor departs for other matters concerning the Nightshade Pack, George and I head towards the
main lab of the herbal remedy company.
“Ms. Sunmere…”
As soon as I step inside, the manager promptly approaches me, visibly relieved.
“Weren’t you supposed to be absent today?”
I let out a light chuckle, genuinely feeling cheerful for the first time in a long while.
“Just continue with your work. I’ve come to observe and help if needed.”
The manager exhales a sigh of relief and hands me a bundle of files with enthusiasm.
“The candidates for today’s interviews are all quite impressive, particularly this one…”
I glance through the papers, expecting to see unfamiliar names. However, my breath catches when I spot ‘Jastor Halden‘ at the top of one application.
“How is this possible…”
“Is Ms. Sunmere familiar with him, too?” the manager inquires, noticing my shock.
I nod slowly, my thoughts racing. “We used to work together at Verdant Moon Herbalists.”

The manager’s face lights up instantly. “That explains why such a talented herbalist would apply to our new company! It seems he is a friend of Ms. Sunmere.”
A wave of guilt washes over me. I hadn’t anticipated Jastor coming here, which implies he likely left Verdant Moon Herbalists due to the incident with Cyrinne Wynthor.
It’s on me.
While I am lost in these unsettling thoughts, I suddenly hear a familiar, gentle voice.
“Aelira…”
Turning around, I see Jastor standing nearby, his attractive face radiating genuine warmth. His green eyes shine with kindness.
“Jastor, what brings you here for an interview?” I inquire, though I already have an inkling of the
answer.
Jastor chuckles softly, his face maintaining a carefully composed expression.
“I felt uncomfortable at my last company, so I chose to resign.”
His simple statement strikes me deeply. I feel overwhelmed with emotion as I realize Jastor’s discomfort is certainly linked to Cyrinne’s influence and the hostile atmosphere that has driven me
away.
“Jastor…” I begin, wanting to express my apologies.
But before I can say anything of significance, Jastor smiles with apparent good cheer.
“I just finished negotiating my salary with your manager, and it’s doubled compared to what I had before. I suppose I owe you my gratitude for that.”
This revelation only
By feelings of regret. His attempt to lighten the mood only serves to
underscore the sacrifices he has made.
“Are you available at noon?” I ask impulsively. “How about I take you out for a meal? I noticed a
steakhouse downstairs that looks fantastic.”
#
“How about I treat you instead?” I quickly add.
Jastor readily agrees, smiling warmly. “Sounds good.”
At that moment, however, the smile on his face gradually disappears. His eyes shift behind me, taking
on a cautious look.
Curious about his fixation, I glance in the direction he’s looking and spot George engrossed in texting

“This is your domain,” Jastor states, pulling his gaze away and attempting to restore his smile. “Would
you mind showing me around the facilities?”
I nod instantly, eager to divert from the awkward atmosphere. “Certainly.”
Though I agree to give him a tour, I head straight to the herb processing laboratory. As a leading herbalist, Jastor clearly appreciates the importance of the equipment in the room. His expression lights up at the sight of silver–infused preparation tables, rare moonstone grinders, and temperature- regulated storage units.
“Alpha Daelor is remarkably generous…” Jastor remarks, surveying the area with a mix of professional admiration and an unidentifiable emotion.
“Hmm?” His tone takes me by surprise. “Are you referring to Daelor?”
Jastor nods with a smile, though a calculating glint flickers in his green eyes.
“I researched the company prior to my visit. I know he’s the one operating behind the scenes…
I quickly nod, feeling an urge to clarify.
“Yes, Daelor expressed interest in the herbal remedy sector, which is why he established this company. However, he lacks knowledge about the technical details, so he asked for my help in managing it….
“That’s quite the coincidence…” Jastor responds, his laughter lacking genuine warmth.
“It seems as though Alpha specifically started this company for your benefit.”
His offhand comment lingers, laden with implications I prefer not to explore. Just then, footsteps echo outside. I turn to see Daelor entering, his commanding presence immediately enveloping the room.
“Daelor? What brings you here?” I inquire, caught off guard.
“I just wanted to check if you were done,” he answers with a smile.
Then, he turns slowly, his silver–gray eyes sharpening with focus as they land on Jastor.
The atmosphere drops in temperature.
“This is Jastor,” I quickly introduce, sensing the sudden tension. “You’ve met before. He’s here for an interview today.”
Daelor’s lips form a smile that feels menacing, his eyes remaining icy.
“An interview?” His voice carries a threatening tone. “My company is too small for someone as

I glance at Daelor in shock, recognizing the clear hostility in his words. My wolf growls anxiously, unsettled by the aggressive energy permeating the air.
What could Jastor have done to provoke such intense dislike from Daelor?
“Actually, the size of the company is irrelevant,” Jastor states, his voice calm despite his evident
anxiety.
“I came here on Aelira’s behalf. As colleagues, we ought to support one another, preventing her from falling prey to deceitful individuals.”
Jastor’s gaze is unwavering as it meets Daelor’s, his green eyes shining with unexpected bravery in the face of the Alpha King’s power.
The two men stand off, only a few feet apart, their shared animosity palpable in the charged air. I find
myself stuck in the middle, feeling the weight of their hostility.
“U–um…” I stammer, desperate to diffuse the tension.
“I think it’s time for lunch. Why don’t we go eat? It’s on me today!”
Jastor glances at me, his demeanor softening.
However, before he can reply, Daelor interjects with a calm that doesn’t quite ring true.
“Alright, I’m feeling hungry too. Let’s head out.”
The distance from the company to the steakhouse is short, under two hundred meters. Yet every step feels like navigating a battlefield.
I can nearly sense the unspoken tension between them. The atmosphere is so dense it feels tangible.
Did they actually hold deep–seated grudges? The bitterness appears far too personal for mere casual disdain.
As a result, our lunch is fraught with unbearable tension. Each bite seems forced as the two men engage in subtle, verbal jousting.
Once our meal concludes, Jastor proposes we return to the company, his tone brightening with genuine excitement.
“I’ve brought several herbal remedy projects and formulas along. I would love to go over them with you.”
My spirits lift immediately. I have longed for professional collaboration.

He truly proves his reputation as a master herbalist!
Jastor beams, his green eyes shining with shared excitement.
“I believe there’s a formula that holds particular promise for treating moon–sickness in pregnant she-
wolves. You can review it later.”
His tone turns serious. “For a new company, the key factor is gaining recognition within the werewolf healing community.”
“Mhm,” I nod quickly, already feeling eager to begin.
“Should we head back to the company now?”
“Sure.”
I rise promptly and face Daelor, anticipating that he will excuse himself.
“Daelor, shall we…”
However, before I can complete my sentence, Daelor suddenly speaks in a low voice with an odd
timing.
“Oh, there’s something I forgot to mention…”
“What is it?” I ask, my alertness heightening.
“Your brother is in the hospital.”
11
“What?” I am taken aback, my previous excitement overshadowed by immediate concern.
“What happened to Jornic? Is he sick or hurt?”
My wolf whimpers anxiously as thoughts of my only surviving family member in danger race through my mind.
Daelor’s silver–gray gaze shifts meaningfully toward Jastor’s face before he shrugs with a carefully feigned helplessness.
“I’m not entirely sure about the details. Something happened this morning.”
“Do you know which hospital he’s at?” I ask urgently, already reaching for my jacket.

“Do you want to go see him now?”

I pause for just a moment, torn between the excitement of Jastor’s projects and my commitment to
family.
Then I nod resolutely. “Okay.”
Even though our last meeting ended badly with harsh words and bitter accusations, Jornic is still my
only blood relative left in this world.
“Let’s go,” Daelor says, already heading towards the exit. “I’ll drive you there.”
