Aelira’s POV

My smile falters immediately, and I instinctively tighten my grip on my phone. The voice from Lunar
Herb Medical Center hits me like a cold bucket of water.
The pregnancy termination procedure is tomorrow.
I have been so focused on exposing Cyrinne Wynthor and Roderic Riven’s affair that I’ve entirely
overlooked this daunting decision looming over my life like a death sentence.
“Ms. Sunmere? Are you still there?” the medical staff member prompts, noting my silence.
“Yeah, I’m here,” I manage to stutter, my voice reduced to a mere whisper.
Oriana, who had been lounging on my couch at Myrthale Residences while scrolling through social media, immediately perks up. Her keen hearing has picked up enough of the conversation to grasp the
situation.
Her expression clearly reveals her concern as she observes my struggle during the phone call.
“We have you scheduled for 10 AM tomorrow morning,” the voice continues in a composed manner. “We just need verbal confirmation that you still plan to proceed.”
My throat feels completely parched. The words get stuck like sharp thorns, refusing to emerge.
“Can I return your call in a few hours?” I finally manage to say.
“Certainly, Ms. Sunmere. However, we do need your confirmation by 8 PM tonight for our preparations,” he replies.
After I hang up, I gaze at the phone clutched in my hands as if it were a poisonous snake.
Oriana quickly takes a seat beside me on the couch, her face displaying genuine concern.
“Aelira, perhaps you should reconsider this entire situation,” she says softly, worry lacing her tone.
“What if the mysterious Alpha from the territorial gathering actually intended to save you instead of colluding with Roderic and Cyrinne?”
I shake my head decisively, though my heart isn’t fully convinced by my own words.
“That’s perhaps a one in ten thousand chance,” I assert, trying to sound determined. “A she–wolf like
me wouldn’t be so fortunate.”

Yet as I speak, a deep yearning stirs within me. A desperate hope that Oriana might be right.
What if that enigmatic Alpha truly wanted to protect me? What if my pup was conceived in a moment
of kindness rather than in cruelty?
Oriana studies my features intently, clearly recognizing the internal conflict I strive to conceal.
“Aelira,” she speaks in a soft tone, “you’ve been carrying this pup for over two months now. I can tell
how attached you’ve become.”
Her words strike closer to home than I wish to acknowledge. The reality is, I have come to love the
small life developing within me.
“Remember what the doctor mentioned about your previous mate bond stress?” Oriana presses on, her
tone gentle yet firm. “The complications could mean that this is your last opportunity to have a pup.”
The reminder sends a sharp spasm through my heart. Dr. Leyric had cautioned me that the trauma
from my failing relationship with Alarion had impacted my reproductive health.
“The thought of losing this bond you’ve established,” Oriana adds, placing a reassuring hand on my arm, “especially if we end up being mistaken about the father’s intentions…”
I shut my eyes, feeling tears threaten to escape. The connection I share with my unborn pup is
undeniable and profound.
“What if we could uncover more about that night?” Oriana proposes suddenly, her voice rising with
hope. “Didn’t Daelor say he was looking into the situation with the pack servant?”
My eyes open wide. Of course! I had been so consumed by the revelation at the marking ceremony that I had forgotten about Daelor’s assurance to locate the servant who had looked after me.
Longing for a reason to delay the procedure, even if just to catch my breath and think clearly, I reach
for my mobile phone.
My fingers shake slightly as I dial Daelor’s number.
He picks up on the second ring, his deep voice enveloping me with its comforting warmth.
“Aelira?”
Hearing his voice momentarily flusters me, sending an unexpected wave of shivers down my spine. I quickly regain my composure.
“Daelor, I called to ask about the pack servant from the territorial gathering. Have you discovered-”
“I was just about to call you,” he interrupts, his voice tinged with enthusiasm.

My heart tightens with anticipation. His tone suggests he has significant news.
“You found her?” I inquire breathlessly.

“I have information,” Daelor confirms. “Important information. I can come pick you up, and we can go
together.”
The urgency in my chest is intense. I need answers right away; I can’t afford to wait another second for information that could alter everything.
“I’m with Oriana,” I say urgently. “Could you just provide me with the address? We can meet you there.”
Daelor’s Alpha instincts seem to sense my desperation, as he agrees without hesitation.
“I’ll send you the location. We’re waiting for you.‘
Once I hang up, I buzz with nervous energy while I anticipate his message.
Oriana observes me as I pace through the apartment, her expression contemplative.
“You know,” she states thoughtfully, “it might not necessarily be bad news.”
I cease my pacing and glance at her.
“Just think about it for a moment,” she adds. “Roderic and Cyrinne haven’t leaked anything
incriminating about you, have they?”
I frown as I mull over her words.
“Given their vindictive nature,” Oriana points out, “they wouldn’t miss a chance for revenge if they had any damaging proof.”
Her reasoning is logical. If Roderic and Cyrinne possessed photos or videos from that night, they would have exploited them by now, especially after the public humiliation I faced today.
“You’re right,” I say, feeling an ounce of my anxiety lift.
My phone buzzes with a text from Daelor that includes an address across town.
“Let’s go,” I declare, grabbing my jacket with a newfound resolve.
The drive feels endless, although it likely only spans twenty minutes. Oriana engages me in gentle
conversation to ease my tension, but my thoughts race with endless possibilities.
When we reach the specified residential address, I spot a familiar luxury SUV, emblazoned with the
Nightshade Pack emblem, parked outside.

George Leach stands next to the vehicle, maintaining his usual professional demeanor. Upon noticing us, he approaches with a respectful slight bow.
“Ms. Sunmere, Miss Oriana,” he greets us formally. “Alpha Briarhallow is waiting for you upstairs.”
He leads us into a modest apartment building and up two flights of stairs toward a simple, tidy
corridor.
The apartment door is slightly open, and I can hear Daelor’s voice speaking softly and reassuringly to
someone within.
George gently knocks before pushing the door wider.
“Alpha, Ms. Sunmere is here.”
In the small but neat living room, Daelor stands by the window. On a worn yet cozy couch sits a petite
middle–aged woman with graying hair and kind eyes.
Recognition strikes me like a bolt of lightning the moment I see her.
She is the pack servant from the territorial gathering–the woman who attended to me that night, bringing me water and ensuring my comfort until I regained consciousness.
Overcome with emotion, I rush forward, nearly startling the servant with my fervor.
“It’s you!” I exclaim, barely managing to restrain myself from seizing her hands.
The woman lifts her gaze to me with gentle recognition, nodding slowly.
“Yes, miss. I remember you.”
Taking a moment to compose myself, I inhale deeply before asking the pressing question that has consumed my thoughts for weeks.
“Do you recall me from that night at the territorial gathering?”
She nods again, this time with greater confidence. “Of course. You were in the guest den, very unwell from something you had consumed.”
My heart races as I ask the pivotal question.
“Do you know who instructed you to look after me that night? Who gave you those orders?”
The servant’s face takes on an apologetic look as she shakes her head.
“I’m sorry, miss. The only instructions I received were through the estate’s staff coordination system.”

A slight disappointment fills my heart, but I continue with my questioning.
“What exactly were you instructed to do?”

“Thoroughly clean the guest den and attend to you until you wake up,” she answers matter–of–factly. “Make sure you were comfortable and had everything you needed.”
While this does not clarify the identity of the mysterious Alpha, it confirms that someone deliberately
organized my care.
I redirect my attention to a potentially more urgent concern.
“When you were cleaning the den,” I inquire cautiously, “did you happen to see any recording devices? Cameras? Anything that might have been used to document the events?”
The servant responds quickly and with certainty.
“No, nothing of the sort.”
“Are you absolutely sure?” I press, needing complete assurance.
“I’m certain,” she asserts emphatically. “I spent over an hour tidying that guest den, scrutinizing every
corner to meet the estate’s cleanliness standards.”
Leaning in slightly, her voice conveys unwavering certainty.
“There was definitely nothing like what you are describing–no cameras, no recording devices, nothing
concealed at all.”
A wave of relief sweeps over me so powerfully that I nearly buckle at the knees. The burden I have
carried for months seems to vanish in an instant.
With his Alpha instincts, Daelor swiftly steps closer, his strong hands providing support from behind.
“Chill,” he murmurs, his tone gentle and filled with concern.
The servant observes our interaction, smiling knowingly at how well we seem to complement each
other.
“I’m alright,” I quickly reassure them, even though my voice trembles with emotion. “Just relieved.”
The joy bubbling within me is so overwhelming that I feel as if I might soar with happiness.
This validates everything Oriana has suspected. The Alpha who was with me that night truly intended to assist, not to cause harm. He isn’t involved in Roderic and Cyrinne’s plots.
“That’s fantastic news!” Oriana exclaims, her face radiating satisfaction. “I told you so! My instincts

were spot on!”
Turning to her, I flash a smile that stretches broadly across my face.
“You were absolutely right,” I agree wholeheartedly.

After I express my sincere gratitude to the servant several times, we all make our way downstairs
together.
Once we reach the sidewalk, I turn to Daelor, feeling a genuine sense of appreciation swell within me.
“Thank you immensely for your help with this,” I say earnestly. “You have no idea how vital this situation is to me and my pup.”
The thought of what I nearly lost by considering the termination without this knowledge constricts my
chest with emotion.
Daelor’s silver–gray gaze softens as he looks at me, warmth and mystery flickering in his eyes.
“I can think of a way for you to show your appreciation,” he suggests, his voice laced with a hint of playfulness that makes my heart flutter.
I blink in confusion. “What do you mean?”
A slow, enigmatic smile spreads across his face, promising something intriguing.
“I’ll tell you later,” he replies, leaving me both deeply curious and profoundly grateful, as hope blooms
fresh and bright within my chest.
