Chapter 109 Decide to Abort
Aelira’s POV

Since Dr. Nyven Leyric has the call on speaker, the voices from the other end resonate with surprising clarity. The backdrop of the hospital is filled with the beeping of medical equipment and the echo of hurried steps in the halls.
Amid the noise, I distinctly hear Roderic Riven’s worried and accusatory tone, aimed squarely at
Alarion.
“You clearly knew she was struggling with depression and couldn’t handle pressure, yet you still
pushed her like that. Isn’t that tantamount to risking her life?” Roderic’s voice trembles with what
seems like true despair.
Alarion’s reply comes swiftly and coldly, slicing through his father’s dramatics.
“Instead of playing the blame game, shouldn’t we engage the media to manage this situation? The
harm to our pack’s reputation-”
“You actually feel sympathy for Cyrinne now?” Roderic interrupts, his voice laden with bitter irony.
Alarion’s silence speaks volumes. Even through the phone, I can feel his confusion and inner turmoil.
Roderic, obviously flustered, attempts to explain his evident panic.
“I’m just an elder looking out for a junior, especially my future daughter–in–law,” he stutters, lacking any
real conviction.
Oriana and I exchange knowing glances, both of us thinking the same word: shameless.
After tonight’s recording, his affair with Cyrinne is practically common knowledge, yet he still has the
nerve to deny it. Does he require Alarion to actually catch them in bed before he admits the truth?
No, with their thick skin, they’d likely claim they were merely having an innocent conversation under
the covers, even then.
“You have never shown such concern for Aelira,” Alarion’s voice slices through the tension, cold and
accusatory.
This statement seems to ignite Roderic’s anger like a spark hitting dry tinder.
“How dare you bring up that she–wolf?” Roderic’s shout reverberates through the phone speaker, causing both Oriana and me to flinch.
“If it weren’t for her, would we be in this mess? It’s all your fault for marking such a worthless she–wolf

Oriana’s face flushes with rage. She begins rolling up her sleeves, clearly getting ready to unleash a torrent of curses at Roderic through the phone.
I quickly cover her mouth with my hand, shaking my head fervently.
We are eavesdropping on Dr. Leyric’s phone call, and we can’t create any more trouble by making noise. Still, I’m just as furious as Oriana.
I can’t believe Roderic has the nerve to blame me for his disgraceful affair with his soon–to–be daughter–in–law.
Am I holding silver claws to their throats, compelling them to betray their own kind? The man’s delusions know no limits.
Alarion’s cold laugh then resonates through the phone, sharp and derisive.
“Oh, so it was Aelira who coerced you into an affair with Cyrinne? Did she tie you up and force you to cheat on your own mate?”
Roderic is clearly about to launch into another tirade when a resounding slap echoes through the phone.
The sound is so sharp and decisive that both Oriana and I jump slightly.
Then, my former mother–in–law, Esther, interjects fiercely into the fray.
“Roderic Riven, you shameless old wolf! You may lack any semblance of shame, but we still possess
it!”
Her voice carries a strength I haven’t heard in years, filled with righteous anger and long–stifled fury.
Perhaps too engrossed in the unfolding drama, Dr. Leyric, on the other end, gasps audibly at Esther’s surprising intervention.
“Who is that?” Alarion bellows without delay.
His voice holds the dangerous edge of a cornered predator ready to strike at any suspected threat.
Oriana and I exchange quick, panicked glances. We’ve been caught!
Our hearts race as we realize we might have just jeopardized Dr. Leyric’s position.
At that moment, Dr. Leyric’s remarkably calm voice cuts through the chaos.
“It’s me,” he states with professional poise, as if he simply walked into the room.

Alarion sounds truly astonished by his presence.
“Nyven? What are you doing here?”

Dr. Leyric responds with casual indifference, as if the answer should be self–evident.
“I came to check on Cyrinne after hearing about her incident. Professional courtesy, you understand.”
His tone is so matter–of–fact that it almost convinces me he hadn’t been purposely spying.
Alarion’s response is icy and suspicious.
“You just wanted to watch the show, didn’t you?”
Dr. Leyric pretends to be slightly offended by the accusation.
“Well, if my presence is not welcomed, I can certainly take my leave,” he responds with an air of wounded dignity, getting ready to exit the scene.
However, Esther quickly steps in, her tone softening with sincere gratitude.
“Please disregard, Alarion, Dr. Leyric. He’s experiencing an immense amount of stress at the moment.
We truly appreciate your visit to check on Cyrinne.”
Dr. Leyric appears genuinely moved by her thoughtfulness.
“Of course, Luna Riven. I completely grasp the situation,” he replies with a tone of respectful warmth.
Esther exhales deeply, the breath laden with the burden of her family’s escalating troubles.
“Our pack is encountering profoundly challenging times right now,” she confesses, evident weariness
coloring her voice.
Then, with a plea laced with desperation, she goes on.
“Dr. Leyric, I kindly request a favor. Please refrain from sharing what you’ve overheard tonight. This
impacts the reputation of the Riven family, and we are already under so much scrutiny.”
Dr. Leyric readily complies, his voice imbued with professional assurance.
“Luna Riven, this is evidently a family issue. I would never intrude or disseminate such personal
information.”
As Oriana continues to monitor their dialogue, her lips purse in obvious frustration.
I can’t help but smirk at her expression, knowing she feels indignant on my behalf.

I often regale her with delightful stories about how well my former mother–in–law treated me, describing her as someone who loved me like her own daughter.
Yet, Esther’s current demeanor starkly opposes everything I’ve shared about our connection.
Of course, I had long seen through my former mother–in–law’s true character. Her actions no longer
evoke any emotional turmoil within me.
Her loyalty has always been first and foremost to her family’s reputation. I had merely been naive
enough to think differently.
Lost in these bitter reflections, Dr. Leyric’s voice suddenly cuts through the phone line.
“Hello, Ms. Sunmere?”
I quickly snap back to the present, realizing he is speaking directly to me.
“Dr. Leyric, I’m here…”
“So, how did it go? Did you find the show enjoyable?” His voice carries a playful hint of satisfaction.
I can’t help but chuckle, despite everything.
“Thank you, Dr. Leyric. That was quite enlightening.
“Don’t express gratitude too hastily,” he replies, suddenly serious. “Actually, I have a favor to request,
Ms. Sunmere.”
“Certainly, Dr. Leyric. How can I assist you?”
“Well…” Dr. Leyric struggles to articulate his thoughts, clearly uneasy about what he is about to reveal.
“I have a friend who has recently encountered a substantial hurdle in his romantic life. Might Ms. Sunmere be able to help resolve this predicament?”
Oriana and I exchange knowing looks. We both recognize that when someone refers to ‘a friend,‘ they are typically talking about themselves.
“Please, proceed, Dr. Leyric.”
“Well, you see…” Dr. Leyric continues cautiously, “My friend, due to a series of unfortunate events, has done something quite regrettable to a she–wolf he holds dear.”
He hesitates, clearly selecting his words with care.
“He is desperate to confess his feelings to her, but is terrified of being turned down. He fears that if
she says no, they might not even be able to remain friends afterward.”

His voice carries genuine anxiety and vulnerability that I’ve never heard from the usually self–assured
doctor.
“Now he feels utterly trapped in this daunting dilemma, uncertain about how to move forward.”
I can’t hold back a soft chuckle. I never imagined that Dr. Leyric could feel so conflicted and anxious
regarding matters of love.
His evident distress only reinforces how deeply he must care for this enigmatic she–wolf.
“Ms. Sunmere, if you were in the she–wolf’s position, would you be able to forgive my friend?”
“Most likely,” I reply after giving it some thought.
“Didn’t you mention that your friend made a regrettable mistake unintentionally? He had no intentions of hurting her, correct?”
I aim to provide genuine advice, despite the humor of the situation.
“I believe that if the misunderstanding is addressed properly, most reasonable she–wolves would be willing to understand. Regarding the romantic element… it all hinges on whether the she–wolf has feelings for your friend.”
“Oh, she definitely likes him!” Dr. Leyric interjects excitedly, almost to the point of embarrassment.
“My friend is simply amazing! She–wolves who admire him could queue up from Aethervale Hospital all
the way to the ocean!”
His blatant self–promotion elicits a full laugh from me.
“Moreover, he is a true romantic at heart. He’s had a secret crush on this specific she–wolf for more
than ten years!”
Who boasts about themselves so overtly? Yet, I feel a genuine curiosity develop about this she–wolf
who has held Dr. Leyric’s affection for a whole decade.
“Alright, I completely grasp the situation,” I say, amusement rising within me. “I’ll inform my friend right away! He needs to confess his feelings before it’s too late!”
Once I end the conversation with Dr. Leyric, Oriana immediately turns toward me, her excitement
palpable.
“Who do you think this mystery she–wolf is that Dr. Leyric has fallen for?”
I open my mouth to theorize, but before I can say anything, my phone buzzes with an incoming call.
“Hello, is this Ms. Sunmere?”

“We finally managed to get in touch with you! We’ve been attempting to contact you for hours,” the
voice continues in a professional tone.
“I’m calling from Lunar Herb Medical Center. Ms. Sunmere, your appointment for the termination
surgery scheduled three days ago has been confirmed. We want to check in with you. Would you like
to go ahead with the procedure?”
