Chapter 9
After saying this, Edmund lowered his head, wanting to kiss
Kaneeta.
A wave of disgust overwhelmed her at once, and every cell in her
body was screaming. She tried her best to slap him in the face and
tilted her head to dodge his kiss.
But he pinched her chin and forced her to look at him.
“Be good, Neeta. I want you…”
“I’m not feeling well!” Kaneeta snapped.
Her anger somehow added a flirtatious edge to her stunning
beauty. With the alcohol taking effect, he found it harder and
harder to resist.
He let out a laugh, seemingly seeing through her. “Liar, you. You
took the pills already. You think I’d fall for that?”
He held her tightly, burying his head in the crook of her neck and
inhaling her scent greedily.
Her mind buzzed as the disgusting sounds of him and Nyasia in
bed echoed in her head again.
It was so disgusting.
She’d never let him touch her again!
“Edmund!” she shrieked. “My leg hurts! Let go of me!”
Just then, a sudden clap of thunder roared outside the window.
Edmund paused abruptly.
His body stiffened.
Even the air seemed to freeze.
After quite a while, he finally released her.
The madness on his face was gone, and he had become much
sober.
“Sorry, Neeta. I forgot that… your leg hurts whenever it’s about to
rain.”

The car accident had cost Kaneeta’s right leg.
She had spent tremendous efforts, going through torturous
rehabilitation, to finally walk normally again.
Only she knew how much she had suffered.
Though she could walk, dancing only lived in her midnight
dreams.
What was more, her right leg always throbbed on rainy days.
Though she said this to get Edmund off of her, she wasn’t exactly
lying. Her right leg did begin to hurt.
“Sit down.”
Edmund led her to sit by the bed. Then he pulled a chair, sat
opposite her, and looked into her eyes gently.
“Let me give you a leg massage, alright?”

“I’m good.” Her voice was tense. “You may go out now. I wanna
rest.”
“Neeta,” he sighed helplessly, “I know you’re still upset, but Nya is
my sister. Can you be the bigger person here?”
Though she didn’t say anything, he didn’t seem to mind. He
continued, “Fine. Neeta, rest here tonight. But we are married-

you can’t just keep sleeping in a separate room forever, right?
Mom called earlier, wanting to know when we’re planning to
have kids.”

At the mention of children, Kaneeta immediately recalled what
he had said to Nyasia on the phone that night.
“After she gets pregnant and gives birth, I’ll think of something to
register the child under our names.”
What a despicable pair. They wanted her to bear their child?
Dream on!
“I don’t wanna have a baby yet,” she said coldly.
Edmund frowned. Just as he was about to say something, she
added, “I’ve been taking pills for my health lately. The doctor said
I shouldn’t get pregnant in the following months, or it wouldn’t
be good for the baby.”
She knew Edmund wouldn’t respect what she wanted.
So, she lied, just to get him off her back.
“What? Well…” Edmund hesitated and could only sigh helplessly.

“Then focus on getting better first. Stop taking the meds. We’ll try
for a baby in six months.”
He wanted her to carry a baby so badly that he wouldn’t even let
her take the meds.
She was such a fool before.
But it was fine. She no longer had any expectations left for him.
Besides, chances were, he wouldn’t even be able to see her in six
months.
The rain grew heavier, tapping against the glass, pattering.
Even another second in the same room with Edmund was
unbearable. Suddenly, Kaneeta said, “It was pouring just like this
that day two years ago.”
Edmund’s body stiffened again.
Sure enough, he felt guilty whenever the car wreck was brought
- up.
She smiled, “It hurt so much, being hit by the truck… Edmund, do
you know the feeling of losing a leg?”
“Neeta, where does this come from?” He forced a smile.
“No reason. The rain brought me back. That’s all.”
She remained calm and composed, like this was just some
everyday small talk.
But guilt haunted Edmund so much that he could no longer stay
here. He sprang to his feet so fast that she even felt a gust of
wind.
“Get some sleep. I’m going to bed, too.”
Chapter 9
With that, he immediately turned to leave.
She stared at his retreating figure. Until the room door was slammed shut, she finally let out a heavy breath.
Just then, her phone dinged.
It was a message from her assistant.
“Ms. Drayton, you left early and didn’t get to see this. But I got it
on recording.”
Attached was a clip.
In it was the private room where they partied tonight. Edmund
and Nyasia were sitting so close, just like any intimate couple.
The staff from the CEO’s office probably had a bit too much to
drink. They were egging them on, urging them to kiss.
Nyasia blushed shyly. Though she said, “Stop it, you guys“, she
leaned closer to Edmund.
The cheers around them instantly grew louder. Edmund kept
staring at Nyasia in his arms, the desire in his eyes undisguised.
