Chapter 89
“Oh… the child from the Hartwell family’s second branch?
Everything’s fine, so why are you having a meal with him?”
Kaneeta snapped back to herself and smiled helplessly.
“Grandma, isn’t he my arranged marriage partner? Of course I
need to spend more time with him.”
“What?” Regina suddenly raised her voice. “He’s your arranged
marriage partner? Who told you that?”
Kaneeta was confused. “Isn’t he?”
Even Miguel himself had said that he and she were to be
engaged…
“Of course not! Your arranged marriage partner is Woodrow!”
It was as if a huge stone had been thrown into the sea-
Kaneeta’s heart was in turmoil.
“You, what did you say… My arranged marriage partner is
Woodrow?”
“That’s right. I confirmed it with your father several times.”
Chapter 89
After all, this was her precious granddaughter’s marriage
partner–how could she not pay close attention?
If Woodrow weren’t such an outstanding person, she wouldn’t
have agreed so easily.
Kaneeta suddenly stood up from the sofa. Her sleeve brushed
against the celadon teacup on the coffee table, making it
wobble. Scalding tea splashed onto the back of her hand, but she
didn’t even notice.
No wonder.
She had felt all evening that Miguel was acting strangely.
So he was feeling guilty.
No wonder Woodrow didn’t understand why she was keeping
her distance from him.
So he was actually her arranged marriage partner.
“It seems you really misunderstood, child.” Regina shook her
head helplessly. “I thought you already knew… Wait, when you
had dinner with Miguel, didn’t you mention the engagement?
Didn’t he explain it to you?”
Kaneeta’s fingertips gripped the edge of the cashmere sofa

tightly. “Miguel told me himself that we were engaged.“”
“He actually dared to lie to you.” Regina frowned. “I thought he
was an honest child. I didn’t expect I could be so wrong about
someone.”
Although it was Kaneeta who misunderstood first, wouldn’t a
normal person immediately clarify things?
Instead, he just went along with it–not only did he not deny it,
he even brought it up himself.
He really was bold.
Kaneeta remained silent.
At this moment, her mind was in chaos; she had no energy left
to blame Miguel.
Regina looked at her and gently patted the back of her hand.
“Neeta, calm down first.”
Kaneeta took several deep breaths, finally regaining her
composure bit by bit.
Just then, her phone vibrated in her pocket.
She took out her phone and saw Miguel’s name flashing on the

screen.
When she answered, the familiar gentle voice came through the
receiver: “Ms. Drayton, tomorrow we…”
“Mr. Hartwell,” Kaneeta interrupted him, “I think we shouldn’t
be in contact anymore.”
There was a long silence on the other end of the line.
After a long while, Miguel’s trembling voice finally sounded.
“You… found out?”
“Yes. My arranged marriage partner isn’t you.”
“I’m so sorry, I…”
“There’s no need to say more, Mr. Hartwell,” Kaneeta said
calmly. “I was at fault too–I should have clarified things
beforehand. This was a misunderstanding, and I owe you an
apology as well. But now that things have come to this, if we
keep in touch, it will only be awkward for both of us. Don’t you
agree?”
