Chapter 76
Kaneeta instinctively turned her head to look at him, surprise in
her eyes.
She wasn’t surprised that Woodrow knew about the welcome ceremony–after all, even Miguel knew, and Cora had made
quite a show of it. It was only natural that Woodrow would
have heard.
She just didn’t understand why Woodrow would ask her about
- it.
“It was quite enjoyable,” she said.
Woodrow fell silent again.
Kaneeta couldn’t stand the strange atmosphere any longer, so
she took the initiative and asked, “Mr. Woodrow, do you… have
something you want to say?”
She had originally wanted to ask if something was bothering
him.
But after thinking it over, she changed her wording.
Woodrow didn’t answer immediately. After a while, he spoke in
Chapter 76
a low voice: “You even invited Miguel, but you didn’t invite me.”
Kaneeta was momentarily speechless, then instinctively
explained, “Mr. Hartwell came with a friend.”
After explaining, she felt something was off.
What kind of logic was that!
Miguel was her betrothed–so even if she had invited him,
wasn’t that only natural?
Woodrow’s words were just too strange.
Did he think that, after all they’d been through together in
Calchester, they counted as friends, so she should have invited
him?
But Woodrow didn’t seem like the type to care about such
things at all.
“Sorry, Mr. Woodrow,” Kaneeta explained dryly, “I was afraid
you were busy and wouldn’t have time.”
This half–hearted excuse almost made Woodrow laugh out of
exasperation.
What a little liar.
Chapter 76
Wasn’t she the one who said she’d get along well with her
fiancé?
But after returning to Roseburn, she hadn’t even sent him a
single message, let alone invited him to the welcome ceremony.
And just now, the sight of Kaneeta standing next to Miguel was,
no matter how he looked at it, an eyesore.
That kid Miguel, could it be that…
“Then, how about… I hold another one?”
As soon as she said it, Kaneeta couldn’t help but laugh at herself.
The corners of Woodrow’s mouth lifted slightly as well. “Ms.
Drayton, that’s very thoughtful of you, but there’s no need to go
to such trouble.”
The atmosphere in the car suddenly became much lighter.
Kaneeta’s smile hadn’t faded yet when Woodrow suddenly
leaned in a little closer, his eyes fixed on her intently. “Ms.
Drayton, just treat me to a meal.”
His sudden closeness made Kaneeta’s heart start to race
uncontrollably.
“Ah… sure, I did say before that after returning to Roseburn, I
Chapter 76
should treat Mr. Hartwell to a meal.”
“Oh, there’s that one too,” Woodrow’s smile deepened. “So that
makes two meals in total.”
Kaneeta’s mouth twitched.
Well, when you put it that way, it’s not wrong.
The scent of the car’s air freshener mingled with the faint cedar
fragrance from Woodrow, weaving a delicate web in the
confined space.
Kaneeta stared at the second pearl button on his shirt, her
throat tightening. “Two meals it is. Mr. Hartwell, what would
you like to eat?”
“I’ll leave it to you, Ms. Drayton,” Woodrow leaned back,
crossing his long legs.
“Alright.”
“Once you’ve decided, Ms. Drayton, you can call or message me
anytime.”
After saying this, Woodrow paused, then added, “Anytime.”
Anytime–as if he didn’t sleep twenty–four hours a day. She
wouldn’t dare call and wake him up while he was sleeping.
Chapter 76
Kaneeta grumbled inwardly, but agreed out loud, “Alright.”
Woodrow suddenly said, “Miguel is about to hold an art
exhibition. He’s been very busy lately.”
The way Miguel looked at Kaneeta always made him feel
uneasy.
Even if it was just his imagination, it was still better for Kaneeta
and Miguel to have less contact.
“Hmm?” Kaneeta misunderstood his meaning. “Then… should I
go help out?”
Woodrow: “?”
This time, he really did laugh in exasperation.
