Chapter 73
Kaneeta expressed her thanks, took the cake knife, and after she
made the first cut, everyone cheered. The lively atmosphere
brought an extra smile to Kaneeta’s face.
At last, she had returned to Roseburn, back to her family, back
among her friends.
How wonderful it was.
After cutting the cake, Kaneeta first served a few pieces to the
children present.
With so many friends, it was only natural that some were
already married with children, and today they had brought
their kids along to join the fun.
Most of the adults weren’t particularly interested in eating cake,
but the children were full of excitement.
Even if they never lacked for food and drink, the feeling of
eating cake together with several friends in such a lively
atmosphere was certainly something different.
One child, perhaps too excited after getting their cake,
accidentally knocked over a decorative bouquet.
Chapter 73
Miguel immediately turned around and deftly caught the
teetering vase, smiling as he comforted the startled child: “It’s all
right, as long as you’re not hurt.”
“Thank you, Uncle,” the child said, eyes shining with gratitude.
Miguel smiled and ruffled the child’s hair.
The welcome party continued in a lively fashion. As the
evening wore on and everyone grew tired from the festivities,
people gathered in small groups, chatting idly.
Cora had had a bit too much to drink and was telling jokes.
Before she could make anyone else laugh, she burst out
laughing at her own story.
Kaneeta sat on the sofa by the railing, gazing at the city lights at
night.
The evening breeze gently lifted her long hair.
At that moment, a gentle male voice sounded beside her.
“Ms. Drayton.”
Kaneeta turned her head and saw Miguel standing nearby.
“Mr. Hartwell.”
Chapter 73
Kaneeta rose from the sofa.
Miguel lifted his hand and handed
er a gift bag.
“This is a gift I prepared for you.“”
Everyone who came to the welcome party had brought a gift
for Kaneeta, so when Miguel handed her his, Kaneeta didn’t
think much of it. She reached out to accept it, smiling as she said,
“Thank you, Mr. Hartwell.”
After she accepted the gift, Miguel made no move to leave.
Instead, he gazed at her intently, his eyes filled with complex
emotions.
“Ms. Drayton, I…”
Before he could finish, Cora came over, giggling, and threw an
arm around Kaneeta’s shoulders. She glared at Miguel and said,
“What do you want? Let me tell you, even if you’re Neeta’s
arranged marriage partner, hic, you two aren’t married yet!
Neeta is still mine! Hee hee.”
Kaneeta, helpless, said, “Cora, you’ve had too much to drink. Mr.
Hartwell, please don’t mind her.”
Busy supporting the swaying Cora, Kaneeta didn’t notice the
strange look on Miguel’s face.
Chapter 73
“I… arranged marriage partner?”
“That’s right, isn’t the Hartwell family going to arrange a
marriage with the Drayton family? Hic! Don’t tell me you don’t
know.“”
Miguel’s expression stiffened. “I know, but…”
“No, no, I think I’m going to be sick!”
Alarmed, Kaneeta hurried to help Cora to the restroom.
Miguel watched Kaneeta’s retreating figure, his fingers
tightening slightly.
It seemed they had all gotten it wrong.
They all thought that Kaneeta’s arranged marriage partner was
him.
Of course, he very much wished that were true, but…
Back when he first learned that the Hartwell family intended to
arrange a marriage with the Drayton family, he had been
delighted.
The Drayton family had only one daughter: Kaneeta.
So if there was to be an arranged marriage, the partner could

only be her.
