Chapter 71
Kaneeta was clearly just forcing a smile.
How could she not see through it?
“Don’t tell my dad or my grandma about this for now.”
“Mm, I know..”
Sensing the heavy atmosphere, Cora took a deep breath,
suppressed her emotions, and began to change the subject.
“By the way, I didn’t expect you to have so much contact with
Mr. Hartwell lately.”
As soon as Cora finished speaking, Kaneeta’s fingers paused
slightly on her teacup.
But she quickly regained her composure: “Yes, it was just a
coincidence.”
“A coincidence? I doubt it,” Cora said, stroking her chin. “Why do
I feel like Mr. Woodrow seems to treat you differently… Neeta,
could it be that he likes you too?”
“Wait, why did you use the word ‘too“?”

Cora grinned mischievously. “Because now I suspect your fiancé
Miguel likes you as well. Oh, right…”
She took two tickets out of her bag and waved them in front of
Kaneeta.
“Look, these are tickets Miguel gave me. The art exhibition is in
half a month. Are you going?”
Kaneeta was silent for a moment before she replied, “I’ll go.”
Since he was her fiancé, she ought to attend his art exhibition.
Maybe she could get to know him better that way.
“Then let’s go together.”
Cora stuffed the tickets into her hand, then suddenly
remembered what she had just said. “Hey, wait, I haven’t
finished talking about Mr. Woodrow yet.”
“Don’t talk nonsense,” Kaneeta said, rubbing her brow. “Doesn’t
he already have a girlfriend? How could he possibly like me?”
“That’s true. I think someone as ruthless and decisive as Mr.
Hartwell, if he ever fell in love, might actually be very loyal!”
“Ruthless?” Kaneeta asked, puzzled.
“Yeah, you probably don’t know yet…” Cora said mysteriously,

lowering her voice even though it was just the two of them.
“The Everest Group has been having a tough time lately.
Originally, they and the Hartwell Group were just ordinary
competitors, not at each other’s throats. But recently, Mr. competitors, not at each other’s th
Hartwell suddenly went all out! The Everest Group couldn’t put
up any resistance at all. If this keeps up, it’s only a matter of time
before they go bankrupt… Their boss even went to my dad for
help recently, but my dad wouldn’t dare get involved. He didn’t
even meet with him.”
Although the Hale family was also quite prominent among the
wealthy, there was no way they could go up against the
Hartwell Group.
“Just last night, I heard my dad sighing at home, saying Mr.
Hartwell is really ruthless. You can’t afford to offend someone
like him.”
Suddenly, Kaneeta remembered the incident when Woodrow
had been drugged.
Connecting it with this matter, she began to have some
suspicions in her heart.
“Maybe the other side provoked him first, so he retaliated so
harshly,” she said softly.
“That’s possible, but Mr. Hartwell really does seem like a cold

person.”
“He’s not,” Kaneeta blurted out. “He’s actually very nice.“”

Cora was taken aback, then looked at her with a meaningful
expression.
“Neeta, why are you defending him so much?”
“I’m not,” Kaneeta denied flatly. “I’m just telling the truth. Did
you forget? I just told you that Mr. Hartwell has helped me a lot
lately.”
“Alright, I’ll believe you for now!”
Kaneeta picked up her teacup and took a few sips, hiding the
momentary panic in her eyes.

Cora scheduled Kaneeta’s welcome party for the evening,
choosing the rooftop terrace of a grand hotel as the venue.
She invited all the friends who used to be close with them.
Originally, it was just to welcome Kaneeta back to Roseburn,
but now there was another reason–to celebrate Kaneeta finally
saying goodbye to her scumbag ex and embracing a new life.
