Chapter 68
A white car was waiting at the airport entrance.
Kaneeta recognized it at a glance as the Drayton family’s car.
The chauffeur, wearing white gloves, stood by the car. When he
saw her, he greeted her respectfully, “Ms. Drayton.”
He then took her suitcase from her and opened the car door for
her.
Kaneeta bent down, about to get into the car, but froze when
she saw who was inside.
“Dad…”
A middle–aged man was sitting inside, his head lowered as he flipped through some documents. Even without speaking, he
exuded an air of authority.
Usually, Kaneeta dared to argue with him over the phone or on
video calls, but now she was like a timid chick, quietly getting
into the car and sneaking a glance at her father.
Matthew Drayton was still reading his documents, showing no
intention of acknowledging her.
Chapter 68
He hadn’t mentioned that he would come to the airport to pick
her up himself, so Kaneeta was completely unprepared.
She had thought she would only see him after getting home.
Now, seeing him so suddenly, Kaneeta felt a pang of guilt.
After all, for the past few years, she had been at odds with her
father because of a worthless man.
After putting Kaneeta’s luggage away, the chauffeur took his
seat at the wheel and drove silently toward the Drayton’s villa.
An awkward silence settled inside the car.
Kaneeta kept stealing glances at her father.
At first glance, her father didn’t seem to have changed much
over the years, but on closer inspection, there seemed to be
more white hairs on his head.
Though he never said it, she guessed he must have worried
about her a lot.
Kaneeta’s eyes suddenly reddened.
She felt a wave of regret, but at this point, regret was useless. All
she could do now was stay by her father and grandmother’s side
and make up for the years she had missed.

After a while, Matthew closed his file and finally spoke.
“Was your journey smooth?”
Kaneeta nodded eagerly, like a pecking chick. “Mm–hmm, it
went very smoothly.”
Matthew had intended to scold her a little, but seeing her like
this, his heart instantly softened.
“Silly girl.”
He reached out and ruffled her hair.
A surge of tears welled up in her eyes.
Kaneeta remembered how, when she was little and got into
trouble, her father would always pretend to be angry, but in the
end, he would soften.
“Dad…” Her voice trembled, choked with emotion.
“Alright,” Matthew patted her hand. “You’re home now. Let’s
not talk about the past anymore!”
“Okay!” Kaneeta sniffled. “Is Grandma at home?”
“Of course,” Matthew replied. “Madam Drayton has been talking about you every day. She’s been waiting in the living room since

early this morning. She wanted to come to the airport with me
to pick you up, but she’s caught a bit of a cold lately, so I didn’t
let her come. She was quite upset about it.”
“Grandma has a cold?” Kaneeta asked anxiously. “Is it serious?”
“It’s nothing serious. She’s taken her medicine. The doctor said
she’ll be fine after a couple of days‘ rest.”
“That’s good.”
When they arrived at the Drayton’s villa, the ornate iron gates
slowly opened.
As soon as Kaneeta opened the car door, she heard a familiar
voice: “My precious granddaughter! Neeta!”
Her grandmother, hair completely white, hurried over, her eyes
brimming with tears.
“Grandma!” Kaneeta threw herself into her grandmother’s arms.
She still smelled the same–warm and comforting.
Although they had often video–chatted over the years, it was
never the same as seeing each other in person, beyond the cold
screen.
“Neeta, Neeta…” Regina Vaughan hugged her beloved

granddaughter, filled with both joy and worry.
She was happy that her granddaughter was finally home, but
worried because…
She stole a glance at Kaneeta’s right leg.
This was her only precious granddaughter… If Neeta was
different in any way, she would notice it immediately!
