Chapter 66
She hadn’t thought about it in detail before, always assuming
that Woodrow was angry because Edmund kept pestering the
Hartwell family’s marriage candidate.
But now, seeing the ointment he had bought especially for her,
she suddenly felt that things might not be so simple.
So Woodrow, he…
Kaneeta’s feelings were extremely complicated.
She didn’t think of herself as universally adored, but with the
way Woodrow had been looking after her lately, even someone
as slow as her could sense something unusual.
Was he really only taking care of her and standing up for her
because she was his cousin’s intended fiancée?
If only Woodrow were her marriage candidate.
The thought suddenly popped into her mind, startling even
herself.
She quickly shook her head, trying to chase away that absurd
idea.
Chapter 66
It felt as if something was quietly blooming in her heart, but she
forced it back down.
She couldn’t let herself do this.
Otherwise, it would be too unfair to her real fiancé, to Miguel.
Someone sent a video call invitation. Kaneeta picked up her
phone and saw it was her best friend, Cora.
As soon as the call connected, Cora’s pretty face appeared on the
screen.
“Wow, Neeta, I haven’t seen you in years, but you look a bit
haggard!”
Even Cora’s exaggerated tone couldn’t hide her concern.
“Nonsense,” Kaneeta laughed. “I just finished showering. Don’t I
look gorgeous?”
Cora dropped the subject and changed the topic: “You’re coming
back to Roseburn the day after tomorrow, right? Hehe, I’ve
already prepared your welcome party. We’re just waiting for
the guest of honor!”
“Really? If the welcome party isn’t grand enough, I won’t let you
off the hook.”
Chapter 66
“Oh, stop it, I know you can’t bear to leave me.”
After some giggling, Cora suddenly lowered her voice
mysteriously: “Neeta, I just heard some gossip.”
“What gossip?” Kaneeta asked casually as she prepared to put on
a face mask.
“You know the Hartwell family heir, right? Woodrow, Miguel’s
cousin.”
Kaneeta’s hand, holding the mask, paused for a moment, but she
forced herself to sound nonchalant: “Of course I know. What
about him?”
“He apparently has a girlfriend!”
Kaneeta’s hand froze completely.
But Cora didn’t notice her reaction and kept chattering on:
“Didn’t everyone say he never got close to women? All these
years, there hasn’t been a single woman by his side, and he’s
never had a girlfriend. Who would’ve thought he was actually
in a secret relationship? But this is just a rumor that’s started
going around, so who knows if it’s true.”
Chapter 66
By the time Cora finished her long speech, Kaneeta had calmed
down completely.
“You really should pay less attention to these rumors,” Kaneeta
said. “And don’t gossip about others behind their backs, or you
might get yourself into trouble.”
“Don’t worry, I know. I’m only telling you. Woodrow isn’t
someone to mess with, and I definitely don’t want to offend
him.”
Kaneeta started applying her face mask.
At this moment, her mind was especially calm.
This was for the best.
So it turned out she had just been overthinking things.
Since Woodrow had a girlfriend, how could he possibly have
feelings for her?
It seemed he really was just looking after his future sister–in-
law.
She needed to adjust her mindset as well.
She should just treat him like an older brother from her
relatives‘ family.
Chapter 66
“Neeta… did you put your face mask on upside down?” Cora
asked quietly.
Kaneeta snapped back to her senses and realized she really had
put the mask on upside down, with the eye holes over her
mouth.
She quickly took off the mask and coughed lightly. “Um, just a
little accident.”
“You’re acting weird,” Cora said, staring at her through the
video. “It feels like you’ve got something on your mind.”‘
After a pause, she added, “You’re not still thinking about that
Edmund Kuntz, are you? Neeta, he’s not worth it.”
