Chapter 51
“Alright.”
Atticus hurriedly hung up the phone. Kaneeta lay down on the
bed, and suddenly her stomach growled twice.
So hungry.
Atticus had hired a chef to come here for her.
But tonight, the chef hadn’t prepared dinner in advance.
Did Atticus think she would be having dinner with Woodrow
tonight?
How strange.
Woodrow was strange too. He clearly knew she was to be
engaged to his cousin, yet he still invited her to the movies.
Kaneeta felt as if her mind was a complete mess. She rolled
around on the bed a few times, but it didn’t help.
At that moment, the nanny Atticus had hired to look after her
knocked on the door.
“Ms. Drayton, would you like to come out for dinner?”
Chapter 51
“Coming,” Kaneeta replied.
Forget it, better fill her stomach first.
She left the bedroom and came to the dining table, where
several dishes were already laid out–all her favorites.
The chef must have learned her tastes from Atticus.
But the plates looked different from the ones used in the manor.
Kaneeta casually asked, “Did you change the tableware again?”
“Ah? Yes… yes, we did,” the nanny replied with a smile. “You
don’t like them?”
“No, I was just asking.”
With that, Kaneeta began to eat.
The nanny quietly let out a sigh of relief, didn’t disturb
Kaneeta’s meal, and walked out.
At that moment, the chef was sitting in a chair playing games.
The nanny walked over and teased, “You sure have it easy
tonight, not having to cook.”
“Hey, it’s not like I didn’t want to cook. Someone else brought
the food, didn’t they?”
Chapter 51
“That Mr. Hartwell is so odd… He insisted on having dinner
delivered, and wouldn’t let us tell Ms. Drayton it was from him,”
the nanny muttered quietly. “I even asked Mr. Vance, and he
agreed!”
“If we’re not supposed to say, then we won’t. As long as Ms.
Drayton enjoys her meal, that’s all that matters!”
Kaneeta was indeed enjoying her meal; all the dishes tonight
suited her taste.
However, she could tell that these dishes weren’t made by the
chef Atticus had hired.
Thinking back to the nanny’s slightly odd behavior just now,
she had a vague suspicion.
Tonight’s dinner… could it have been sent by Woodrow?
So he realized she was lying when she said she’d already eaten.
Kaneeta didn’t understand–was this really just care for his
future cousin–in–law?
A thought suddenly flashed through her mind, but she quickly
shook her head.
That was too absurd. Someone like Mr. Hartwell–how could he

possibly have feelings for his cousin’s fiancée?
Looking at her chat window with Woodrow on her phone, she
wanted to thank him, but in the end, she said nothing and
turned off the screen.

Time passed day by day. Some people felt it flew by, but for
Nyasia, who had been in the detention center all this time, every
day felt like a year.
At last, the day of her release arrived. When Nyasia walked out,
her legs were trembling.
“Nya!”
Lila had been waiting outside the whole time. When she saw
Nyasia come out, she hurried over, holding a few fresh bay
leaves in her hand. She gently brushed them over Nyasia’s arms
and shoulders, the fragrance from the leaves wafting through
the air with her movements.
“Mom…” Nyasia called out to her in a choked voice, tears
streaming down her face. “You have no idea what I’ve been
through these days…”
“There, there,” Lila hugged her tightly, heart aching. “You’re

finally out now. From now on, we can’t be so impulsive
anymore, alright?”
Nyasia wiped her tears and looked at Edmund, who was
standing to the side. She started crying again: “Ed, why didn’t
you do anything? Why didn’t you get me out sooner? Everyone
in there bullied me–I don’t even know how many times I got
beaten up!”
