Chapter 48
When he saw the person getting out of the car, Edmund’s pupils
contracted sharply.
Woodrow!
At this moment, a fine drizzle had already begun to fall from the
sky.
When Woodrow got out of the car, he brought an umbrella with him. He opened it and strode over to Kaneeta, holding the
umbrella over her head.
AN
“Sorry,” he said, “there was a bit of traffic on the way, so I’m late.“”
Kaneeta was also surprised. “You’re the one picking me up?”
Why did Atticus send Mr. Hartwell to pick her up?
Such a trivial matter…
It really was too much trouble for him.
But Woodrow didn’t seem the least bit bothered by the
inconvenience. He simply said to her, “Get in the car.”
“Neeta!”
Chapter 48
Edmund was still sitting in his car, staring at the two of them intently. “Aren’t you getting in?”
Of course, Kaneeta couldn’t possibly get into Edmund’s car, so she smiled at Woodrow. “Then I’ll trouble you, Mr. Hartwell.”
In fact, her smile was a very polite one, but in Edmund’s eyes, it looked especially charming.
It even stung his eyes.
Kaneeta… How could she show that kind of smile to another man!
Even if she wanted to anger him, she shouldn’t do something like
this!
Woodrow held the umbrella and walked with Kaneeta toward
his car.
Edmund wanted to get out and pull Kaneeta over, but he felt that would be too humiliating, so he could only remain seated in his car and shout at Kaneeta, “Neeta, I’m telling you one last time,
come here!”
But Kaneeta completely ignored him.
After Woodrow opened the car door, she got in without the
slightest hesitation.
Chapter 48
Edmund felt a rush of blood surge to his head.
Kaneeta actually dared to get into another man’s car right in
front of him!
Kaneeta, well done-
This time, he absolutely won’t forgive her so easily!
Meanwhile, Woodrow closed the umbrella.
Before getting into the car, he glanced in Edmund’s direction.
In that glance, there seemed to be a strong warning.
How ridiculous!
He was Kaneeta’s husband… Even though their marriage certificate was fake for now, one day it would become real!
What right did Woodrow have to warn him?
Woodrow had already gotten into the car, and as the car drove away, Edmund remained rigidly seated in his own car, his face
dark, saying nothing.
The driver in front, seeing him like this in the rearview mirror,
didn’t dare say a word or start the car.
Suddenly, the phone rang. Edmund snapped back to his senses

and saw that it was a call from Lila.
“Mom.”
“Well? Did you pick up Neeta?” Lila asked.
“…Don’t bother with her anymore,” Edmund said coldly. “We’ve spoiled her too much, and now she’s completely out of control. I shouldn’t have come to pick her up today. Maybe…”
Maybe if he waited a few more days, she would come to him on
her own.
But now, she was feeling triumphant again.
“Sigh… Neeta was never like this before. What’s gotten into her now… Ed, when Nya gets out of the detention center, let’s just
send her abroad.”
“No way!” Edmund objected immediately. “Mom, could you really
bear to let her go?”
“Of course I can’t bear it, but you two, you and your sister…”
“Besides, her abusive ex–husband is still abroad. That’s a
psychological shadow for her. If you send her overseas again,
isn’t that just rubbing salt in her wound?”
“What did you say?” Lila’s tone suddenly changed. “Abusive ex-
