Chapter 8
Alexander rushed between social events to borrow money for taxes and fines, drinking until he vomited daily.
No matter how hard he tried, it was all futile.
His Horizon Tech had been deliberately suppressed by his father and Nathaniel, leaving no company willing to lend a hand.
With no other choice, he liquidated his assets–selling houses, cars, luxury goods, everything of value–just to cover the taxes and penalties.
Yet his company, crippled by a capital shortage, plunged into crisis and ultimately declared bankruptcy.
Alexander was left with nothing.
His reputation in New York was tarnished by tax evasion and his father’s malicious suppression, rendering him unemployable.
The once–celebrated business prodigy became a pariah, universally despised like a rat in the street.
Alexander sank into despair for months, drowning himself in alcohol until he drank himself into a stupor.
He couldn’t accept how destitute he’d become and muddled through life for months.
After wallowing in despair, he came begging for my forgiveness again.
Alexander showed up just as I was leaving for getting a haircut.

Months apart had visibly thinned the man before me.
He looked sleep–deprived with dark circles and stubble, radiating exhaustion that erased his former vitality.
“Olivia…” His bloodshot eyes met mine, voice trembling. “Seeing me like this… doesn’t it hurt you?”
I was simply perplexed.
“Alexander, what does that have to do with me? Why should I care?”
“But you loved me for years! You’d ache for weeks if some small animal got hurt…”
“You think you’re comparable to animals?” I rolled my eyes. “To me, you’re not even worth an animal!”
I tried to walk past him, but he blocked my way.
“Olivia, I was wrong about the past. I shouldn’t have deceived you or been with that bitch Emily. But I’ve paid the price now I’ve got nothing and everyone hates me. Can’t you forgive me just once? For the sake of our history, can’t we start over?”
Forgive?
The irony almost made me laugh.
How could I forgive the hatred from my past life when he tortured and humiliated me?
Lashed with whips, scalded with boiling water, fingers smashed, electrocuted with batons… How could I possibly forgive these bone- chilling atrocities?

How can I forgive the grudge that consumed me?
God granted me a second chance–I won’t show mercy again!
‘Alexander, this lifetime and the next, for all eternity–never!”
Ignoring his pleas, I brushed off his hand and walked away resolutely.
Pulling out my phone, I texted Emily,
“Ms. Brown, Alex is here begging me with tears, saying you’re a bitch unworthy of his affection. How vile is that? Doesn’t he deserve God’s frown?”

After I left, Alexander stumbled away in despair.
ལ
On his way back, he moved like an empty shell–dazed and hollow–eyed..
Years of alcoholism had dulled his reflexes.
As he crossed an intersection, violent engine roars suddenly erupted behind him.
Before he could react, a speeding red car slammed into him, hurling his body through the air before crashing onto the pavement.
Blood gushed from the back of his skull, pooling on the ground into a winding, blinding crimson flower.
As consciousness faded, he glimpsed the figure emerging from the car.
Emily’s eyes burned with madness, her face contorted into a grotesque grin as she shrieked with laughter, “Hahaha! Alexander, just die! This is what
you get for abandoning me! Scumbags like you deserve divine

retribution! If I’m suffering, you’ll suffer too! Even in death, I’ll drag you down with me!“.
“You … you… bitch…” Alexander’s chest heaved violently, yet he couldn’t form another word.
Suddenly, he vomited a mouthful of blood and passed out completely.
