Chapter 8
Melissa was stunned. It took her a while to find her voice again. “So, you’re really divorcing Owen?”
“Yes. The divorce papers were signed. Tomorrow marks the last day of the cooling–off period. After that, everything involving him has nothing to do with me.” Amelia answered calmly.
She didn’t even bother to look at Melissa’s reaction. She merely picked up her bag and stood to leave.
But just as she opened the door, a crowd of screaming fans holding signs. with Melissa’s name surged toward them, seemingly ready to charge into the room.
Her expression changed instantly, and she quickly locked the door.
But the fans outside were still kicking at the door, trapping the both of them with nowhere to leave..
Melissa hadn’t expected to run into so many crazed fans at this moment. Flustered and at a loss, she called Owen and asked him to come help.
He arrived quickly and squeezed through the crowd and into the private room amidst the chaos.
He had come in such a hurry that even his usually flawless, crisply pressed suit was wrinkled.
“Melissa, there are too many of your fans outside. The only way out now. is for you and Amelia to swap jackets, and I’ll take you out first.”
Melissa, having just been chased and cornered by frantic fans, turned to
Amelia with a pleading look in her eyes.
Amelia felt utterly helpless.
Owen had come up with the perfect plan to protect his first love. But had he even stopped to think about her?
She chuckled mockingly to herself. In the end, she said nothing and simply took off her jacket.
After the two of them exchanged clothes, Owen didn’t spare her so much as a glance before taking Melissa away.
The door was open for just a moment, then quickly locked again.
Amelia sat quietly and listened to the increasingly frenzied shouts
outside.
She waited for a long time inside the room. Eventually, the fans grew impatient and, with brute force, kicked the door open.
A swarm of people rushed at Amelia, pushing and pulling her.
Her hat, mask, and sunglasses were quickly ripped off.
When the fans realized she wasn’t Melissa, their excitement turned into furious outrage at having been deceived. They shoved her to the ground. and began cursing her viciously.
Numerous feet stomped on her body, leaving bruises everywhere.
“Amid the chaos, she barely managed to protect her vital areas. Still, the pain that surged through her body was overwhelming.
When the crowd realized Melissa was not there, they left instantly.
All that remained was Amelia, who was disheveled and broken. Her heart
felt like an empty wasteland.
She struggled to her feet and, despite her pain, headed to the hospital to have her injuries treated.
There was only one thought in her mind–she had to leave the city and cut all ties with Owen.
After returning home, she booked a flight to New York.
The airline called to confirm her ticket, and she picked up the phone.
“Yes, I booked a 10 a.m. flight to New York.”
Before she finished speaking, Owen pushed the door open and walked in.
Hearing her words, he asked, “10 a.m.? Where are you going?”
Amelia’s eyes narrowed. She hung up the phone and replied calmly, “Just going to see a few old friends.”
He didn’t think much of it. He nodded and didn’t question her further.
He pulled off his coat and noticed the injuries on her body. He froze for a moment before asking. “Are you hurt? I apologize. I didn’t anticipate the fans to go that crazy.”
She gave a small smile but said nothing.
Seeing her silence, Owen changed the subject. “Well, you’ve been cooped up at home long enough. It’s good to get out, meet some friends, and see more of the world.”
Just then, a message from Melissa came through. He picked up his phone. and walked into the study.
The next day, Amelia got up early and collected the official divorce
certificate.
When she got home, she ran into Owen just as he was leaving the house.
She wanted to tell him directly about the divorce, so she called out to stop him. “Do you have a moment? There’s something important I need to tell you.”
Owen glanced at his watch and replied hastily, “If it’s important, we can talk tonight. I have something urgent right now.”
“In that case, there’s no need to talk anymore. This is what I wanted to give you…” As she spoke, she took out the divorce certificate and handed it to him.
As he was busy texting Melissa, he took it without a second thought and tossed it in the drawer.
He picked up his car keys and turned to leave, leaving with nothing more than a quick comment, “Got it. Aren’t you going to that gathering with your friends? Have fun, and come back early.”
Amelia silently watched him leave for the last time and gave him her final answer in her heart. “I wouldn’t be coming back this time.”
With that, she returned to the bedroom, took her luggage, and walked out
of the villa.
As the door shut behind her, she took a deep breath.
After three years, the shackles had finally come off.
She silently bid Owen farewell in her heart. The next time they met, she would no longer be his wife but his rival, Amy.
