Chapter 6
Three days later, Amelia finished her discharge procedures and was ready to go home.
To her amazement. Owen was waiting for her at the entrance and collected her luggage instinctively.
“I have the day off today. Let me take you out for a walk.”
When she heard this, she froze for a moment.

She wasn’t sure why he suddenly wanted to go out today. She wondered if it was a whim or guilt over abandoning her at the restaurant when she was injured, and that he was trying to make up to her.
Could someone like him even feel guilty?
However, Owen seemed unaware of the change in her mood. He took her to a mall and walked into a jewelry store.
He immediately picked out several diamond necklaces, asked the sales assistant to bring them out, and let her try them on one by one.
The sales assistant was all smiles as she helped her try them, praising her
non–stop.
“Sir, you surely have an excellent eye. This Ocean Heart piece is our store’s signature treasure. It complements your wife perfectly!
“Madam, you’re truly lucky to have a husband who dotes on you so much and personally helps you choose jewelry. You two must have such a great marriage!”
Despite the compliments, Owen maintained his usual cold demeanor.
Amelia looked down at the necklace on her neck.
If this had happened back then, she would have been delighted to receive these gifts. But now, she only felt it was all unnecessary.
There’s no need to buy it for me. I don’t like jewelry…”
But he didn’t seem to hear her. After choosing a necklace, he took out his card and paid for it.
Once the assistant had finished packaging it and handed it over, he finally looked back at her, saying calmly, “I know you don’t like it. It’s just that today is Melissa’s birthday, and I bought it as her gift. I didn’t want anything to go wrong, so I asked you to help try it on.”
His words broke her heart.
It turned out that he hadn’t taken her here today out of remorse, but to help him select the ideal present for Melissa.
She was nothing more than a prop in his eyes.
Then, he claimed that Melissa had also asked her to attend the birthday celebration, and he drove her straight to a private club.
As soon as the private room door opened, and Melissa came into view, a faint smile appeared on Owen’s normally indifferent expression.
He handed over the gift and softly wished her a happy birthday.
Melissa’s close friends gathered around, eagerly unwrapping the present.
When the women saw the glittering gemstone necklace, they all screamed excitedly.
“Owen, you didn’t even hesitate to get her such an expensive gift! You’re really good to her! No wonder you two were ranked number one on the Harvard University’s campus couple list!”
Everyone chimed in with their praises. Many old classmates recalled their school days and enthusiastically reminisced together.
As the chatter grew louder and more animated, Owen remained silent.
Seeing this, Melissa’s expression darkened, and she finally interrupted them.
“All right, the past is the past. Don’t talk nonsense. Owen’s wife is here today. Let’s not give her the wrong idea.”
At that moment, all eyes turned to Amelia.
Their old classmates all looked awkward and quickly quieted down.
But a few of Melissa’s old roommates weren’t satisfied and couldn’t help but ask, “Owen, what does your wife do? For someone like you to fall for her, she must be someone impressive too, right? Which bigshot is she?”
Owen answered calmly, “She doesn’t have a job. She’s just an ordinary housewife.”
