The Heir 7

The Heir 7

Chapter 7

Mia sat on the floor of her room, surrounded by the mess she had created. Clothes lay scattered everywhere-on the bed, over the chair, and even the floor. She was digging through every drawer, pulling out anything that might work for tonight.

She paused, holding up a simple black dress, staring at it. It was the nicest thing she owned, but the fabric had faded over time. It wasn’t the kind of dress that would impress someone like Alexander Blackwell.

Mia sighed, throwing the dress onto the bed. It didn’t matter. Tonight wasn’t about impressing him. It was about the money.

Her stomach twisted just thinking about it. The richest heir in Willowcrest had asked her out-not because he liked her, but because he had some hidden reason she hadn’t figured out yet. It didn’t matter. She needed the money, and if this was how she had to earn it, so be it.

She straightened up, determined to keep her focus. She wasn’t going to overthink it.

The door swung open without warning. Anna strolled in, looking as if she didn’t have a care in the world. “What are you doing?” she asked, leaning against the doorframe.

“Nothing that concerns you Ann,” Mia replied, not bothering to look up.

“Right. Anyway, I need you to cover for me for cleaner work tonight.”

Mia froze, turning to look at her sister. “What?”

“I’ve got a cleaning job scheduled for six at the Daniels” Anna said casually, inspecting her nails. “But I’ve got a very important party to go to. It’s not much work and it’s just for three hours”

Mia narrowed her eyes. “You must be joking.”

“Don’t make it a big deal Mia, Lily does it for me all the time.” Anna waved her hand like it was the simplest thing in the world.

“Yeah if she sees someone in the house you’re working at that she wants to fuck.”

“Stop saying nonsense”

Mia sighs tiredly, she didn’t have the strength to deal with her sister right now

“Why are you coming to me though, go ask Lily”

“If she was available I won’t be here” she said through gritted teeth.

“Too bad then”

“What’s your problem?”

“What do you mean by ‘what’s your problem?”

“Exactly what it means Aria what’s your fucking problem”

“I don’t have any problems”

“You are my sister, my family, you always try to push yourself aside, like you’re not part of us. You’re a turner Mia, a turner”

Mia just turned to face her sister, not at all bothered by her shouting.

“I can’t even ask you for a goddam favour. You can’t have my back b-”

“And when exactly have you had my back? Let’s hear it Ann, name it, it’s always what I can do, what I should do. The last time I did a favour for you I almost got raped” Mia was raising her voice too at this point.

“Because according to the bastard you open you leg for him all the time so he thought I was supposed to do same cause well I’m a fucking turner”

“Don’t you dare put that on me. I didn’t ask him to do that to you. Besides it was not issue, nothing happened in the end, grow up Mia”

“Fuck you, fuck that fucking favour”

They stood still glaring at each other. Ann walks out hitting the door harder than necessary.

Ann let out a shaky breath dropping herself on her bed.

She didn’t know long she was just lying here staring at nothing.

Someone clears their throat.

Mia looks up to see Ethan standing at the door.

“I’m not doing it, if that’s what you came to ask.”

Ethan shook his head.

“Far from it, Are you ok?”

“Yeah”

“What’s all the clothes on the floor for? Going somewhere?”

She feels her cheeks burn for absolutely no reason. She can’t exactly tell her brother about the date.AETAT

“Was looking for something” she lies

“Ok see you later”

Then he’s gone

Taking a deep breath, Mia turned back to the pile of clothes. She picked up the black dress again, smoothing it out with her hands. It wasn’t perfect, but it would have to do.

This wasn’t about impressing Alexander Blackwell or proving anything to anyone.

Mia stared at herself in the cracked mirror, her resolve hardening. Tonight, she would step into Alexander’s world, not as someone to be saved or pitied, but as someone who knew her worth.

Someone should have prepared her more for what’s to come
