Chapter 179
Mia sat in the waiting room, her hands clasped tightly together, fingers fidgeting nonstop as she tried to calm her racing heart.
There was still this little doubt in the comer of her mind poking at her confidence.
She did well. She knows she did good.
The questions were tough, no doubt. She had expected a few routine questions though..
It was unexpected, yes, but she trusted her brain to show up when she needed it. And it did. She had spoken clearly, giving her ideas one by one, explaining them with as much calmness as she could manage.
She made sure to make eye contact, even when she was sure her hands were trembling slightly. She could see they were listening, nodding a little, and at one point, she swore the familiar woman in glasses even gave a faint smile.
They looked impressed. Or at least she hoped they were.
She looked around. Some of them had the same nervous expression she wore. Others sat stiffly, legs crossed, hands in their laps, eyes darting towards the hallway every few seconds like they were waiting for a miracle.
This was such a huge company. The building itself was like something out of a movie, glass walls, automatic everything.
If she got this job, her life would change.
A man stepped out from the hallway. Dressed in a dark blue suit, he looked around at the applicants and smiled politely.
“Thank you all for coming,” he said, his voice loud and clear. “You may now leave. Anyone who gets the job will be communicated with.”
Just like that.
They all stood slowly. Some muttered quick thanks. Some looked disappointed already.
Mia thanked the man and gave him a small nod before walking towards the elevator with the others.
She thought briefly about going to Mr. Felix’s office to say she was leaving, but immediately shook the thought out of her head. She couldn’t do that. What would she even say? Besides, she didn’t have his number, and she wasn’t sure if it would be appropriate.
She sighed.
When she gets home, she will ask Ethan to call him. Maybe he could check if things went well or if they will say anything directly to him.
She didn’t want to get her hopes up, but deep down, a small part of her was clinging to the possibility that she would be picked.
They filed out of the building one by one. Some headed straight for the bus stop. Some turned and walked across the street. Mia lingered for a moment, stepping aside so she wouldn’t block anyone.
She looked back at the massive building.
It really was huge.
The kind of place you only dreamed of working in. Glass panels stretched to the sky, and the logo glowed subtly near the top.
There was something about the building, the people, the air itself that felt different. Unreachable. Powerful.
And the place was strange too. Their strange mix up names
Then her thoughts drifted to the interview room again. The familiar looking woman on low cut.

Chapter 179
The way she had looked at her. There was something oddly familiar about her face. Mia couldn’t place it, but it nagged at her.
She has definitely seen that woman before.
Maybe she had seen her somewhere. Maybe in a magazine. Or maybe it was her brain playing tricks.
“Well,” she muttered under her breath, shaking her head.
Whatever their names were, whoever they were, it didn’t matter. She just wanted the job. That’s all she cared about. She needed the money.
She didn’t want to keep being a burden to Ethan. He had done enough. More than enough.
Her chest tightened with emotion. She closed her eyes for a brief moment, steadying herself before blinking back into focus.
She looked around, wondering how she would get home.
She reached into her bag, pulled out her small phone, and dialed her brother’s number.
It rang twice before he picked.

Alex’s mom paced around her office, arms folded tightly across her chest.
How can that girl even be here? Of all places. After everything she did to Alex?
She shook her head, her heart pounding tob loud in her ears. She could feel the knot in her chest tightening.
Was that really that shameless?
Did she show up here now just because she heard of how successful he had become?
But things were also going well for Alex in Willowcrest, he was the rich heir every girl wanted, the richest heir in Willowcrest, the heir to a billion dollar empire, it was clearly not about the money obviously.
Which makes everything so damn confusing.
Then what was it about then, why did she break his heart and why is she back now.
So many questions needed answers
She didn’t recognize her probably because of the changes she made to her hair, clothes, literally everything. She looks nothing like the woman she was
in Willowcrest.
She stopped pacing and sat down, breathing heavily. Her fingers tapped against the glass surface.
A thousand thoughts run through her head, screaming over each other.
What if she really doesn’t know who owns the company. Or maybe she does?
What if she’s just here because she genuinely needs the job?
A lot of “what ifs” were playing in her head like a broken record.
She stood up again, too restless to sit still, and walked over to the large window overlooking the city.
The view usually calmed her, reminded her of how far they had come. But not today. Today, even the city looked unsteady.
She didn’t want to make a decision based on emotion, but how could she not?

Chapter 179
This wasn’t just another applicant. This was a girl who had been a part of her son’s darkest moments. She could feel the protectiveness rising in her chest.
And yet, somewhere buried deep under all that anger, was something else. Curiosity. A small voice whispering that maybe things weren’t how they seemed. Maybe there was more to the story.
Something to do with Charles Blackwell
She wants to have a one–on–one with her before the employment is settled.
Mia was perfect for the job…
But she was battling with the weight of the choice she was about to make.
She wasn’t just about to hire an employee–she was letting someone into their world. Someone who had once caused deep pain to her son.
But maybe… just maybe… this was the closure she didn’t know Alex needed too.
She exhaled, long and deep.
She hopes she is doing the right thing.
