I kept thinking about Maverick’s words, so much so that I didn’t even notice when Mabel placed my hand into Yrian’s.
Before I had the chance to react, Yrian’s face was already near mine.
He told me, “Stephie, you look stunning today.
“Do you realize, I’ve waited for this moment for so long, from 15 years ago up until now, a full decade?”
A full decade, that’s how long I loved Maverick.
And how long Yrian had loyed me.
“Mr. Yrian Lynch, do you take Stephanie Quinn to be your wife? Do you promise to be faithful to her in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, to love her and to honor her all the days of your life?”
The priest began to read the wedding vows, and my mind snapped back to reality.
Yrian gazed at me, nodding with deep affection.
“I do.”
When those words left his lips, it felt like my heart was pierced again.
“Ms. Stephanie Quinn, do you take Yrian Lynch to be your husband? Do you promise to be faithful to him in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, to love him and to honor him all the days of your life?”
I stared at the priest’s moving mouth, as though his words were muffled and distant.
I stayed quiet, offering no reply.
A slight murmur rose from the crowd, and Yrian’s face shifted slightly.
The priest raised his voice again, asking with patience.
“Ms. Stephanie Quinn, do you?”
I still couldn’t answer. I wanted to say yes, but it felt as though my lips were sealed and no words would come
out.
The whispers around me grew louder, and Yrian gently took hold of my arm, murmuring, “What’s wrong, Stephie? Are you feeling unwell?”
“Stephie! You can’t marry him!”
Just as I was at a loss for words, Maverick’s voice echoed from behind me,
Everyone turned to look outside, and there, in a wheelchair, was Maverick with Eva gently pushing him as they entered.
“Maverick? Why is he here?”

“Didn’t you hear? I think Maverick is this woman’s ex–husband!”
“Is he here to stop the wedding? Making such a scene?”
The crowd erupted into whispers, eager to see what would unfold.
When I saw Maverick, my mind went blank.
Wasn’t he supposed to be having surgery soon? How was he here?
Yrian’s expression darkened as well, and his parents stood up, clearly confused.
They were aware of my past, but never imagined Maverick would show up to stop the wedding.
“Stephie, I know who caused the fire. Don’t marry Yrian.”
Maverick handed a bundle of photos to Eva, who then passed them to me.

The pictures were taken at night, blurry, but it was clear enough to show that Reagan was the one who started the fire.

As I held the photos, my hands trembled. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
“Are you telling me Reagan set the fire? And that she’s the one who killed my parents?”
I threw the photos down in front of him, shaking my head in disbelief. “No way! You’re lying to me. You made up this story to stop my wedding. You even pretended to be dying, and now you’re faking photos, claiming Reagan is the real culprit. Maverick, when did you become so repulsive?”
“Mr. Stone’s words are all true”
Eva bent down and picked up the photos one by one.
“These pictures were taken by accident, and they were going into surgery, but it’s not as serious as you think.”
found by the people Mr. Stone sent. He really is
After saying this, Eva added, “Mr. Stone just doesn’t want you to marry Yrian because he loves you too much. Heh.”

Staring at everything before me, I felt like I was about to break down.
I asked, “What about Reagan?”
“The police are searching for her, but they haven’t found her yet.”
Maverick slowly got up from the wheelchair and hobbled toward me.
It was only then that I noticed how badly his leg was injured.
That night on the stairs, the lighting had been too poor, and I was too caught up in my emotions to see clearly.
