Chapter 31 Let’s Date, Yrian
Buzz.
The phone buzzed inside my bag, it was Yrian trying to reach me.
I felt like I’d found a way to breathe again and quickly picked up.
“Stephie, I’m downstairs at your place. Are you home? I brought you some late–night snacks…”
“Yrian.”
My voice was shaky like I was about to cry. I couldn’t say anything except his name.
As soon as he heard me sobbing, he ended the call and ran upstairs without a second thought.
When the door opened, I threw myself into his arms and cried like I couldn’t stop.
“What happened? Stephie?”

Yrian hugged me tightly, his hand gently running through my hair. “It’s okay. I’m here. I’ve always been here.”
I looked toward the stairs but no one was there. At some point, Maverick had already gone.
Turning my eyes away, I shut them and clung to Yrian.
I said, “Let’s date.”
“What did you say?”
He pulled back in shock. He stared at me, completely stunned, and asked, “What did you just say, Stephie? Say it again.”
“I said I want to be with you, Yrian.” I met his eyes and said each word clearly.
I was ready to leave everything behind. I didn’t want to face life alone anymore.
“Stephie! I’ve dreamed of this moment for so long. You have no idea how long I’ve waited.”
With a huge smile, he wrapped his arms around me once more, hugging ane like he never wanted to let go.
I held him just as tight, not wanting to lose the comfort I found in him.
That night, Yrian stayed until it was really late, and even after he left, I couldn’t fall asleep at all.
My thoughts kept drifting back to Maverick. I didn’t know how badly he was hurt. Since he managed to walk away by himself, I figured it couldn’t have been too serious–at least he was still alive.
I wasn’t sure if I was feeling guilty or just scared.
Still, I kept reminding myself that he didn’t matter anymore. I’d chosen Yrian. I wanted a new start and a peaceful life.
Being with Yrian truly made me happy.
But deep inside, there was a strange emptiness. It felt like no matter what I did, a small piece of me was

missing.
I thought I’d never run into Maverick again, but he always came back, like a shadow that wouldn’t disappear, showing up over and over in my world.
One day at work, a coworker handed me a bouquet.
“Wow, what a gorgeous bouquet of flowers, Stephanie! You’re really lucky,” she said with a smile.
I took the roses, assuming they were from Yrian.
But when I checked the card, I saw Maverick’s name written on it.
I ripped the card into pieces and tossed the bouquet into the garbage.
Later that day, when I was leaving the office, I bumped into someone, Eva Fisher.
She worked as Maverick’s–secretary.
“Hey, Ms. Quinn, do you have a moment for a cup of coffee?”
I didn’t know her very well. We had only run into each other once at the office, occasionally on my birthday or when Maverick and I celebrated our wedding anniversary.
Eva had always acted like I was beneath her. Whenever we crossed paths, she gave me a look that showed she didn’t respect me.
Maybe it was because she was aware that Maverick never had any real feelings for me. And since she was his secretary, even when he forgot important things, she acted like she didn’t notice.
Just like when he completely blanked on our wedding anniversary; she didn’t even bother to give him a heads–up.
“I’m tied up right now.”
I didn’t want to deal with anyone who had anything to do with Maverick.
“This won’t take long.”
Eva stepped in front of me, looking serious. “You know I wouldn’t have come unless it really mattered.”
She’d been working for Maverick for seven years. I’d seen her change over time.
She used to be a shy girl, but now she had turned into someone distant and cold like she had built a wall around herself.
She had changed a lot over the years.
Even now, as she sat in front of me sipping her coffee, she gave off a presence that felt more powerful than my own.
