Chapter 29 A New Beginning
After that day, I never saw Maverick again.
With Mabel and Yrian’s support, my parents‘ funeral was held as planned.
Since my house had been destroyed in the fire, I had to stay with Mabel temporarily.

I decided to shut down my dad’s company. With them gone, there was no point in keeping it running.
Besides, after looking into the company’s situation, it was obvious that it was struggling. Continuing would only result in more losses.
After finishing everything, I felt lost.
Mabel was busy and couldn’t accompany me, so I stayed home alone, and my mood worsened.
That was when I decided to look for a job.
The job hunt wasn’t going smoothly. Despite having a good education, seven years without work experience made it impossible to get hired by most big companies.
Just when I was feeling hopeless and desperate, Yrian showed up again to help.
“Try this company,” he said, handing me a business card.
I glanced at the card and saw it was from Lynch Group, with the name Logan Lynch on it.
The name seemed familiar. I remembered Yrian mentioning that his older brother was named Logan.
“This is-”
“It’s my family’s company. It’s not bad. I told my brother about your situation, and he wants you to give it a try.”
Lynch Group was a huge company, almost as big as Stone Group. Inever thought the man beside me was Lynch Group’s young heir.
All these years, Yrian had never flaunted his background, and we’d never met any of his family.
I had always thought he was just an ordinary guy. I never imagined his background wasn’t ordinary at all.
I stared at the business card, feeling conflicted.
I didn’t want to rely on connections to get into a company–it would make me feel useless.
“Relax, even though I recommended you, the interviewers won’t go easy on you. If you have the skills, you’ll get in. If not, no one can help. Good luck, Stephie. I believe in you.”
Yrian turned to face me, his eyes filled with warmth and affection.
So much had happened recently, and if Yrian hadn’t been there for me, I probably would have collapsed by
now.
I felt incredibly grateful to him, but I didn’t know how to repay him.

“Yrian, why are you so kind to me?”
“Can’t you tell?”
Yrian smiled, touching his defined nose bridge with his fingers.
“Well, if you can’t tell, then never mind. One day, when you do, you’ll understand.”
“You like me, don’t you?”
I wasn’t an idiot. With the way he’d been acting lately, I could feel it–he

liked me.

He nodded and sighed. “I’ve liked you for so long, silly, and you’re only figuring it out now. Guess you can only see me when Maverick’s not around.”
Mentioning Maverick, my gaze instantly turned cold.
I didn’t want to talk about him. I had always suspected Maverick started the fire that killed my parents.
But the police found no evidence and ruled it as an accident.
“Stephie, don’t be like this. Maybe Maverick really didn’t do it.”
Yrian was always so kind. Despite Maverick’s hostility toward him, he always spoke up for him.
At that moment, I felt sorry for the man before me.
“I’m sorry, Yrian. I know you have feelings for me, but I’m not ready for a new relationship right now.”
My seven years of marriage to Maverick had left me feeling like a failure, and I was terrified. I didn’t know how to love sorneone anymore.
Yrian shook his head, held my hand, and comforted me. “I’ll wait for you. Whenever you’re ready.”
