I turned on the tap, splashed cold water on my face, and hoped it would help me regain my cornposure.
I tried to remind myself that none of this was my concern. I was only here to ask Maverick for investment in my father’s company. I didn’t need to get involved in anything else.
What happened between him and Reagan had nothing to do with me!
I took a deep breath, forcing a faint smile onto my face.
After making sure it didn’t look too bad, I opened the restroom door–only to find Maverick standing outside.
When he saw me, his lips curled into a faint smile, and he spoke in a low voice, “What’s wrong? Feeling unwell?”
I swallowed hard. “No, I just came to use the restroom.”
“Really?”
Maverick raised an eyebrow, slowly stepping toward me, backing me up against the wall until there was no way for me to retreat. Then, he stopped.
“I clearly saw the look of disappointment on your face earlier, Stephanie. You didn’t really think I’d ask to get back together tonight, did you?”
“Of course not!”
quickly denied it and tried to push him away, but he didn’t budge.
“Tonight is Reagan’s birthday, and I planned this surprise for her. What do you think? Do you think she’ll like it?”
“Whether she likes it or not is none of my business.”
I looked up and glared at Maverick. He was messing with me again, and I knew it.
He was doing all of this just to get under my skin.
“I don’t like that attitude,” Maverick said, stepping back to create some space between us.
He straightened his collar, slipped his hands into his pockets, and smiled faintly. “If you want me to reinvest in your father’s company, it’s not impossible. All you have to do is make Reagan happy tonight, and I’ll invest immediately.”
“Really?”
I felt a surge of hope. “You’re not lying, are you?”
“Getting excited already?” Maverick scoffed. “What, you think you can make Reagan happy?”
I stayed silent for a moment and nodded.
“Yes!
“But Maverick, remember what you said–if Reagan is happy, you’ll reinvest in my father’s company. You

better keep your word!”
Maverick shrugged. I’ll keep my word.”
Before heading back to the main hall. I called Yrian.
I knew what Reagan wanted most–she wanted me to stay away from Maverick, and it would be best if I had a boyfriend.
So, I planned to have Yrian show up. As long as he pretended to be my boyfriend and we acted close, Reagan would be happy.
When I returned to the hall. I saw a crowd gathered around Reagan.
She was the center of attention, basking in the adoration of everyone around her.
As soon as she spotted me, she moved away from the group and walked straight toward me.
“Stephanie, you’re here? I didn’t expect you to come and celebrate my birthday.”
“Yeah. Mr. Stone invited me.”
I was unusually kind to her, even pulling out an expensive bracelet from my bag and handing it to her.
“By the way, happy birthday. This is a gift for you.”
“Wow, it’s the Athena bracelet!”
Someone in the crowd recognized the bracelet and exclaimed, “This bracelet is worth a million!”
“A million?”
Reagan stared at me in disbelief. She couldn’t have imagined I would give her a gift worth a million.
The bracelet was a gift from Philip before we got married. I had always intended to return it, but I never had
the chance.
Now, giving the bracelet to the “future Mrs. Stone” felt like returning it to its rightful owner.
As I handed the bracelet to Reagan, I purposely glanced at Maverick’s face.
He was sitting on the sofa in a corner, almost completely hidden in the shadows, making it hard to see anything.
But I could clearly feel two sharp, cold glares aimed directly at me.
He was probably unhappy, but that wasn’t my concern. My goal tonight was to make Reagan happy.
