Chapter 17 Pulled Out
The two maids turned pale when they saw me come in.
“Mrs. Stone.”
“No need to call me Mrs. Stone. Mr. Stone and I are divorced.”
“Oh, really?”
One maid looked regretful. “Mrs. Stone, Mr. Stone still loves you a lot. These past few days, no matter what we do, he’s dissatisfied. We can all see that he misses you, even calling your name occasionally.”
I paused and looked at my reflection in the mirror.
Since leaving Maverick, it seemed my complexion had improved.
I liked who I was now, and there was no turning back for me.
Yrian arrived swiftly and courteously opened the car door for me. “What do you want for dinner?”
I fastened my seatbelt. “Anything’s fine.”
“Stephanie, you’ll regret this,” Maverick called out grimly from the doorway.
I didn’t look back, realizing that marrying him was the biggest regret of my life.
After tying up loose ends with Maverick, I received the package he mailed.
Reagan must have been rough while discarding them; many items were broken.
I cleaned what could be salvaged, but the irreparable ones I had to toss.
While washing these in the bathroom, Dad came home,
looking very frazzled.
“What happened? Did something happen at the company?”
Mom was consoling him in the living room; their voices were not too loud but audible enough.
Hearing that Dad’s company had issues, I quickly dried my hands and hurried out of the bathroom.
“Maverick suddenly pulled out all the investment from our company. You know, our company’s growth has been reliant on the Stones‘ money. If the company fails, I don’t know what to do!” Dad said, covering his face, clearly distressed.
“How could this happen? Why would the Stones withdraw their investment in our company all of a sudden? Isn’t our family related to them by marriage? Did Stephie and Maverick have a fight? Is that why Maverick is angry and pulled the funds?”
“No, I heard that Stephie and Maverick got divorced, and they’ve signed the paper.”
“What?”
Mom, shocked, turned to see me standing nearby.
I nodded, walking over with a calm expression.

Chapter 17 Pulled Out
Yes, Mom, Dad, Maverick and I are divorced. It’s been a while. I wanted to find a chance to tell you, but with Dad’s health issues, I kept postponing.”
“How could you keep such a big thing from us?”
Mom broke down, clutching my hand and sobbing. “Why divorce? Maverick has always treated you well. hasn’t he? You know our family business isn’t doing well. Without the Stones, your dad’s business can’t
survive.
“Stephie, is there really no chance of you and Maverick getting back together? You loved him so much before, insisting on marrying him. What changed so suddenly?”
Seeing Mom and Dad in such distress pained me.
I never expected Maverick to withdraw every bit of his investment in my dad’s company after our divorce.
“Even the companies we signed contracts with are all canceling, saying they won’t do any more business with us. They’re clearly trying to shut us down!” Dad’s eyes were bloodshot. “Maverick is ruthless.”
Listening to Dad, I remembered what Maverick said yesterday as I left the villa.
He said, “Stephanie, you’ll regret this.”
Is this what he meant?
Just because I divorced him, he had to do this to me?
Haha
I couldn’t help but let out a bitter laugh. Years of devotion had gone to waste.
“Stephie, please go and beg Maverick. Ask him not to withdraw the funds. He’s leaving your dad without any means to survive!” Mom sobbed, clutching my hand. I bit my lip and decided to go find Maverick.
