Chapter9
After leaving the studio, I uploaded every single screenshot of the messages between Isabella Fairchild and William Ashford to the
internet.
They owed me this.
And I was going to take back my justice.
Isabella might not have been a household name, but she was still a small–time influencer.
The moment I hit post, comments and reposts came flooding in.
Within hours, the thread was trending locally.
It didn’t take long for people to dig up William’s identity as well.
“Wow, never thought Sunny–girl looked so sweet and pure. Turns out she’s two–faced… what a disgrace.”
“Trash couple! Drag them out back and put them down.”
“Cheating scum. Engaged and still sneaking around? Karma’s coming for them.”
The post snowballed fast.
Some people even tracked down where the two of them worked.
Crowds gathered in front of Starlight Portrait Atelier, gawking and snapping photos.
Once couples heard about Isabella’s “glorious” past, they canceled their bookings one after another.
Her boss, not wanting to get caught in the mess, had no choice but to fire her.
Things weren’t much better for William.
He’d been on track for a promotion after his current project wrapped up, his manager had even hinted at it early.
But now, with his personal scandal blowing up, the company quietly removed him from the core team. His promotion vanished into
thin air.
As for me?
I left my job and used my savings to open a flower shop, a dream I’d been putting off for years.
For the first time in a long time, I was living for myself.
I signed up for a gym membership and went every day. In a month, I lost thirty pounds. I even got LASIK and finally ditched my glasses.
People around me kept saying I looked like a new person, like I’d been reborn.
The next time I saw William was three months later.
He’d been temporarily reassigned to a side project in another province, busywork, really. As soon as that wrapped up, he came straight
back.
In those three months, he’d sent me countless texts. I never replied to a single one, I thought he’d finally given up.
I was wrong.
He found my flower shop.
When I saw him again, I almost didn’t recognize him. He’d lost so much weight, his hair cropped short, skin tanned dark.
*Evelyn…” His voice was rough. “You’ve gotten even prettier.”
There was nothing but regret in his tone.

“In these past three months… I’ve done a lot of thinking. I’ve really reflected on what I did. I realize now just how badly I messed up. I swear to you, if I ever make the same mistake again, may I get hit by a car and die right there on the street.”
He looked like he meant it. His fingertips even trembled as he made the vow.
“Our wedding invitations are still in my desk drawer,” he choked out. “I really, really want to start over with you.”
For a moment, I didn’t doubt his sincerity.
Maybe he had changed.
But I still shook my head.
“William, let it go.”
His voice broke. “Why?”
“Because I don’t love you anymore.
”

“I’ve started a new life. Seeing you just reminds me of all the unhappiness from before. Letting go of all those years… it turned out to only take a moment. Once the love is gone, everything else fades with it.”
“William, I don’t love you. When I look at you now, I feel nothing but disgust, sometimes I even feel like I might throw up.”
“If you have even the tiniest bit of feeling left to then do me a favor: don’t ever show up in front of me again. Let me go. Let yourself go, too.”
I said it calmly, no yelling, no tears.
My tone was as even as if I were talking about the weather.
Shock flashed in his eyes, quickly replaced by hopelessness.
い
He knew me well enough to understand: the calmer I was, the less chance there was of turning back.
I watched his figure grow smaller down the street.
After what felt like an eternity, he swayed slightly, then turned and stumbled
out
of
my shop
And then, for the first time in a long while, I felt my chest loosen.
I hoped we would never cross paths again.
