Chapter8
After William left, I told my parents I was calling off the wedding.
Once they heard the whole story, they didn’t try to talk me out of it. Instead, they stood firmly on my side.
“Eve, you’re grown now. No matter what choice you make, we’ll always be your strongest support.”
The moment I heard that, the tears I’d been holding back spilled over.
And once you’ve cried it out… you start over. Completely.
Thadn’t expected William to keep clinging on.
He kept texting and calling every day.
Sometimes he even sent food deliveries to my door or waited outside my office building.
I’d had enough. If I wanted to be free of him, I had to cut him out of my life entirely.
So I handed in my resignation.

William always claimed I had no sense of romance, that all I ever did was work.
But the truth was, I worked so hard because I wanted to give us a better life.
All those late nights at the office weren’t for fun, they were for the overtime pay.
I never thought the sacrifices I made for our future would become the very reason he despised me.
From now on, I’d live for myself.

I’d grown tired of that job long ago. This time, I wouldn’t force myself to para un sapin drepturil
stay.
I had barely finished the paperwork when I got a call from Starlight Portrait Atelier.
The staff had no idea what had happened; they were just calling to confirm whether I still wanted to proceed with the wedding photos.
The irony of it made me laugh.
Still, I went to the studio.
Not for the pictures, just to see Isabella Fairchild face to face.
It had been less than two weeks since I last saw her, yet she’d already wasted away to skin and bone.
When our eyes met, she froze for a moment before curling her lips into a bitter smile.
“Did you come here to gloat?”
I said nothing.
“I’ll tell you the truth, William only feels guilty for you. He doesn’t love you. He’s only ever loved me!”
Her voice was hoarse, her eyes swollen and red. She looked like she was teetering on the edge of a breakdown.
I didn’t answer her,
I simply took out my phone and dialed William’s number.
He picked up immediately.
“Eve, you finally called me!”
Just hearing him use my nickname made my skin crawl.

Swallowing my disgust, I put the call on speaker.
“Have you made up your mind yet? Are you choosing me, or Isabella Fairchild?”
He didn’t hate
“You, of course! I was just fooling around with her. You’re the only woman I’ll ever truly love.”
I ended the call without another word.
Across from me, Isabella’s face crumpled
as tears
streamed down her cheeks.
The hatred in her eyes was palpable.
“Don’t get cocky,” she spat. “Even if you marry him, I’ll haunt you like a ghost. I’ll cling to William for the rest of my life. I’ll never let either of you go. He’s mine!”
She was gone, completely lost to her obsession.
I could only shake my head. “For a man like that.
Her teeth clenched. “It’s worth it!”
is it really worth it?”
Then she sneered, “Don’t act so high and mighty. You look like at fat, ugly cow. William’s only with you out of pity! Sooner or later, he’ll come to his senses and come back to me.
Her face twisted into something almost inhuman, as if she wanted to rip me apart with her bare hands.
She was beyond saving.
I had given her a chance, and she had thrown it away.
So she had no one to blame but herself for what came next.
