Thankfully, someone was even more eager for that day than I was.
Isabella’s belly wasn’t going to wait.
Grandma Stanton quickly set a wedding date.
However, on the day of the wedding, James ran away.
No one knew where he went.
Isabella, in the bridal suite, was so furious she trashed the entire room.
But no matter how angry she was, she had to endure it.
She had schemed for so long just to give the child in her belly a good start in life.
That’s why she had said on the night of the party that either Jax or James would do.
The ten years Isabella disappeared in our past life weren’t because she had successfully married Jax, as rumors suggested.
It was because she was sentenced to ten years in prison for poisoning him and for extortion.
Originally, her pregnancy might have earned her a lighter sentence.
But she had drunk too much at the party and had been careless during her pregnancy.
The fetus developed abnormalities and she miscarried early on.

Chapter 2
Thinking back, it must have been around this time.
The wedding venue was in an uproar, with no sign of the groom.
Mrs. Stanton was frantic, like an ant on a hot pan.
Isabella stood beside her, comforting her while clutching her stomach.
But they couldn’t reach James.
Jax and I exchanged a smile, quietly waiting for him to appear.
James was nothing if not proud. He would definitely come back.
Isabella had played him for a fool. James probably wanted to kill her.
To think he once considered such a person his one true love… he must be regretting it to his very core.
The stage was set. It would be a shame for the leading man to be absent.
Just then, I received a text message.
It was news that James had just left the hospital.
As per my instructions, a cleaning lady at the hospital had “accidentally” let him see Isabella’s lab results.
It was quite a coincidence.
When Jax had asked me to go with him for a check–up, we had unexpectedly seen Isabella there.
She was acting so furtive, it was obvious something was up.
She clutched her lab report as if afraid someone would see it, and then threw it away the moment she was outside.
After she left, I went to retrieve it.
It showed that Isabella was three months pregnant.
It had been less than two months since the graduation party.
And for several months before graduation, James had been abroad studying for his English proficiency exams. He wasn’t even at the university.
No matter how you calculated it, the child wasn’t his.
I put down my phone and calmly looked toward the entrance of the hall.
Sure enough, James arrived, his face a thundercloud.
Isabella rushed to greet him, feigning concern as she tried to wipe the sweat from his brow.
But James shoved her away and questioned her coldly.
“Don’t you have anything to say to me?”
Publicly humiliated, Isabella’s face flushed with embarrassment, but it quickly morphed into a look of impending tears.
Her eyes welled up, full of grievance.
“James, today is our wedding day! You didn’t even come to pick me up. You were so late, making me wait for you while I’m pregna- nt. Don’t you have anything to say?”
James’s face was dark, the veins on his forehead bulging.

Chapter 2
“I do!”
“Get out. You, and the bastard in your belly!”
He grabbed a microphone and tapped it twice.
Isabella sensed something was wrong and desperately tried to snatch it from him.
But he shoved her away so hard she slammed her head against a pillar.
Without a second glance, he announced to the entire crowd:
“The wedding is canceled!”
Isabella sat slumped on the floor, dazed.

When she finally came to, she ignored her dizziness, scrambled to her feet, and started grappling with James.
She had planned for so long, and she was close to succeeding. She couldn’t accept his sudden change of heart.
Then, as if jolted awake, she whirled around and confronted me.
“Laurie! What did I ever do to you?”
“Why are you trying to frame me?”
“You just can’t stand to see me happy, can you?”
Isabella was hysterical, grabbing at my shoulders again.
Jax moved to pull her off me, but I stopped him with a look.
James also came over to pull her away.
Isabella didn’t dare confront James, so she directed all her fury at me.
“And I even took those drinks for you! You think you can tear me and James apart?”
Before she could finish, I threw her arm off me.
i raised my hand to slap her.
Isabella flinched, but then I remembered I shouldn’t hit a pregnant woman.
So I turned and slapped James twice instead.
He was stunned, holding his cheek in disbelief.
“You…”
He dared to speak. I switched hands and slapped him twice more.
Mrs. Stanton pushed her way through the crowd.
“Laurie, you…”
Me what?
I had been waiting for this day for a long time.
I don’t hit women, I don’t hit elders, but I can’t hit James?
For every word Mrs. Stanton said, I gave James another slap.

Chapter 2
“Anyone else have anything to say?”
My arm was getting tired.
While they were all still in shock, I subtly took a step back to a safe distance.
In the ensuing chaos, Isabella unfortunately suffered a miscarriage.
And James was taken away by the police.
He had been involved in the plot to drug Jax.
The wedding ended in a farce.
Isabella, with all her scheming, ended up with nothing. Naturally, she wasn’t going to accept that.
I heard that before she had even fully recovered, she went to the Stanton house to demand an exorbitant amount of compensati-
- on.
Just like in our past life, she couldn’t escape the charge of extortion.
And she had the misfortune of running into James on the street, who tore into her, saying she had aimed for the sky but was fated to be in the dirt, that all her clever plans had amounted to nothing.
The taunts drove Isabella completely mad. She got in her car and drove straight at James. In the end, they died together.
When I heard the news, I couldn’t help but feel a little wistful.
James had lived two lives and still couldn’t escape his fate of being killed in a car crash.
Perhaps that was just his destiny.
Everything is a choice. And whatever the consequences, you have to bear them yourself.
