Chapter 6
At those words, everyone present turned pale with shock
Dominic’s face changed drastically as he stared in disbelief.
“That’s impossible,” he said. “Are you sure there’s no mistake?”
The butler replied with absolute certainty, “I have confirmed it several
times.”
Mr. Carter, that day you left your son on the side of the road. He couldn’t get a ride, so he ran all the way, trying desperately to reach the exam venue. But on the way, he was hit by a truck and killed on the spot!”
The butler’s words struck like a hammer, blow after blow, crashing down on the room
Dominic’s face tumed deathly pale. Hands trembling, he ended the call.
The room fell into a stunned, suffocating silence.
“W–What’s going on?
Alice looked as though she had been struck by lightning. Her gaze swept between the urn by my side and Dominic, her voice shaking
“My precious grandson.. he’s really gone?”
Dominic said nothing. He stood silent, unmoving
In the hewy silence, Beatrice suddenly turned to Dominic, her tears flowing like rain.
“Dom, I’m sorry. This is all my fault.
“If I hadn’t told you I was pregnant, you wouldn’t have rushed off to find me. And your son he wouldn’t have died.”
“It was me. I killed him. I should go make it right. I’ll go be with him!”
With that, Beatrice pretended to run toward the door in grief.
As if terrified of losing her, Dominic quickly caught her and hold her tightly in his amis, gently reassuring her,
“Don’t be silly. This wasn’t your fault.
“This was Alexander’s fate.”
“I was going to announce him as the heir to Carter Group today but his death made me realize something.”
“Maybe he was never meant to inherit the Carter legacy. Otherwise, why would he die on the very day you told me about your pregnancy?
“This proves one thing–your child is the one destined to inherit Carter Group. His death happened so that our child could have a clear path.”
At those words, Alice, who moments ago had looked devastated, now broke into a simile.
“Yes, yes, Beatrice, this is late!
“It’s obvious Simone’s gens just aren’t strong enough. That’s why even the heavens want the child in your belly to lead the Carter family!”
The other socialites and elites chimed in one after another: “That’s right. Why didn’t the accident happen to someone else? Why on the very day Miss Pembroke got pregnant?”
“This is clearly a sign from above!”
“Simone’s ingratitude mist have reached a point that even the gods can’t stand. That’s why they wouldn’t let her bloodline taint Carter Group,”
“In fact, this might be a blessing in disguise!”
