The guests around us began to chime in.

Amidst their mocking, Dominic stared at me with undisguised disgust. “I know you’re acting out because you’re jealous of Beatrice. But she’s my secretary, comes from a prestigious family, and she’s highly competent. Without her help over the years, the Carter Group wouldn’t have grown so fast. And you? You just take care of the kid. Now you can’t even do that right. What makes you think you can compare to her?”
