Chapter 7
The tension that had just been crackling in the air suddenly dropped into
silence.
Matt took the ring, examined it closely, and then shook his head, confused. “I’ve never seen this before.”
“The day you left, all our classmates gave you gifts. This was mine.
“You said you liked the candy rings, so I went to the store and picked this one out myself. I even wrote my name on it in black marker.”
We stood there in shock for a moment. When we turned back to Connor,
his face had darkened.
“Stella, stop lying to yourself.
“You left that ring on my desk. It was your way of saying you wanted to
marry me.”
Matt understood, a smirk playing on his lips.
“I remember now. A month before I transferred, we were desk mates.”
So he’d misunderstood.
“Luckily, after all the twists, it ended up
with me.”
He held out the ring in front of me. I smiled and slipped it on his finger.
We ignored Connor who was holding the flowers.
“Stella, even if this ring isn’t for me, all these years the one you’ve truly loved is me!

“I’ve got all your confession texts saved on my phone. You can’t deny that!” he said firmly and even showed me the messages I’d sent him.
I just glanced quickly, not lingering.
“You’re right. I loved you for years.
“But the day you said you loved Nina, I stopped loving you.”
A spark lit in Connor’s eyes.
“It’s because of Nina… I get it now!”
He gently set the flowers at my feet and walked away.
A few days later, the Scott family went bankrupt.
They originally got rich from Nina’s dad’s lottery win but had no business skills or investment sense, so their company kept losing money.
Besides, Nina’s recent lavish spending had nearly drained the lottery
money.
At first, I thought Connor had just taken over their business, but when Nina begged on her knees before me, I realized it was more complicated.
“Ms. Jennings, I know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have fought you over a
man!
“Please, save my parents! Connor’s gone crazy. He reported my dad for tax evasion. The amount is huge; he could go to jail!”
I pulled my fingers free from her tight grip.
“If Connor reported it, you should talk to him. Coming to me won’t help.”
“I know he did it because of you! Please, say something nice to him. He

loves you so much; he’ll listen.”
“Really? Because I seem to remember Mr. Wright loves you, Nina.”
Nina’s face turned pale, and she trembled on her knees.

“Ms. Jennings, I know I was wrong. I promise I’ll never show up in front of you again. Just please, you and Connor, let me go…”
I found it ridiculous and stood up.
“Ms. Scott, instead of asking us to let you go, maybe you should ask yourself and Connor to let me go.
“I’m engaged now and have a new life ahead. If you keep bothering me, never find peace.”
Nina grabbed my pant leg, pleading, “Ms. Jennings, please…”
Before she could finish, Connor suddenly appeared and pulled her away.
I’d never seen him so furious.
“Who do you think you are? Who told you to bother Stella?”

Nina bit her lip. “Connor, what would it take for you to let my father go?”
“You made me lose Stella. This is your punishment.”
Connor pushed Nina away, then turned back with that same sad look on his face.
“I kicked her out and got revenge for you. Stella, can you forgive me?”
Matt, who had been sitting nearby, finally couldn’t hold back and called over the bodyguards.
“Mr. Wright kicked out Ms. Scott, and now I’m kicking you out. Fair

Connor struggled fiercely. “Matt, this is Stella’s home! Who gave you the right to kick me out?”
I felt sleepy, yawning as I leaned against Matt.
There was a sandalwood scent on his collar. I took a deep sniff and felt even sleepier.
“Because Stella is my fiancée. We’re getting our marriage license tomorrow and holding the wedding next month.”
Then he picked me up and carried me to my room to rest.
Behind us, Connor slammed into the door with a bang.
The bodyguards cursed quietly, then reported, “Mr. Collins, he fainted.”
