Chapter 5
Connor smiled.
“Isn’t this the ever–serene Mr. Collins? Didn’t expect you’d come to my engagement to Stella.
“What’s the matter? Do you think my fiancée is yours?
“Everyone knows Stella loves only me and has been desperate to marry me since we were kids.”
Matt stood in front of me, leaving only half my body visible.
“Connor, open your eyes wide. This is my engagement party with Mr. Collins!”

He followed my finger and turned around. Before spotting the names, he noticed both sets of parents coming out first.
My parents, who had always treated him well before I chose my partner, now looked down on him and only smiled at Matt.
“Matt, Stella can be a bit temperamental sometimes. Please bear with her.”
“Don’t worry. Stella and I get really well. I’ll never let her suffer.”
Matt’s calm, gentle expression only fueled Connor’s anger. Raising his voice, Connor said to my mother, “I think you’re mistaken. I’m your future son–in–law.”
My mother ignored him, but my father looked past him and asked me, “What just happened?”

I pointed and explained, “Yesterday, they locked me in the Wright’s villa, forced me to get down on my knees, made me serve tea to Leah, and even made me sign a contract to give them half our family’s property.
“Today, she showed everyone a video of me on my knees, trying to ruin our family’s reputation.”
My father shot a cold glance, and the bodyguards immediately grabbed the phone.
Everyone froze; those who’d been eagerly watching the fun quickly backed away.
Reporters‘ cameras were practically in their faces.
“What’s going on? Isn’t Ms. Jennings supposed to marry Mr. Wright? Doesn’t that mean Mrs. Wright forced her-”
“Wait, look–the engagement banner says Mr. Collins!”
Finally, Connor and the others saw the names on the wall, the ones getting engaged.
Stella and Matt.
“So Ms. Jennings‘ fiancé was never Mr. Wright? He’s just imagining things?”
I heard him gasp and instinctively try to reach for me, but Matt stepped in.
“Mr. Wright, please show some respect.”
“No… Impossible! You were supposed to marry me!”
Leah froze, and Bob hunched over, shaking his head nervously. “No…”

anger.
“How dare you make my precious daughter drop to her knees!
“Listen up, all you bosses here, from now on, anyone who works with the Wright family is disrespecting me!”
Bob and Leah turned pale.
Matt took my hand and led me inside.
Connor tried to pull me back but Nina grabbed his arm and dragged him
away.
“Connor, you don’t have to marry her anymore, so why are you going in? Let’s leave; we can finally get married openly!”
“Get lost! You’re just a nouveau riche’s daughter and you want to marry me? Know your place!”
Nina was pushed down, and before I knew it, he already caught up to me.
“Stella, this has to be a mistake, right? You only love me. How could you marry him?”
Feeling all eyes on us, I knew some things needed to be resolved quickly.
So I said slowly and clearly, “Connor, I stopped loving you a long time ago. You were just too confident, thinking I’d never marry anyone else.
“The truth is, I would rather die than marry you!”
Then I linked my arm with Matt’s, showing off the cufflink on his sleeve.
His cufflink was engraved with his initials–MC.
Connor’s eyes widened, and he trembled violently.
