Chapter 2
The gift box was beautifully wrapped, but its sharp edges cut my chin.
Gasps rose around me, yet no one dared to step forward.
I touched the wound, and my palm was instantly stained with blood.
Connor before me felt more and more like a stranger, just like when he publicly insulted me for Nina in my past life.
My heart grew colder inch by inch. “I won’t apologize for something I didn’t do.”
“Fine, then don’t regret it!”
Connor walked away, holding Nina.
My parents, seeing my wounds, were frantic and rushed me home, calling a private doctor to treat me.
Watching their worry, I felt a strange sense of relief.
Luckily, heaven gave me a second chance to fix my mistakes.
This time, my parents were still around, and my family fortune hadn’t fallen into outsiders‘ hands.
I needed to stay as far away from Connor and Nina as possible!
A few days later, the Collins family sent over stacks of engagement gifts, filling the entire villa.
Among them was a bracelet passed down through generations, showing how much they valued this marriage.

I couldn’t help but feel sad.

In my past life, the Wright family knew how deeply I loved Connor but told others they didn’t want me as a daughter–in–law and that their son was forced to marry me because I wouldn’t leave him alone.
So, there was no engagement party, no engagement gift from the Wright family, and the wedding was just a simple meal between the two families.
Reflecting on his parents‘ sarcasm at dinner, Connor’s cold shoulder, and then seeing the respect from the Collins family, made me even more grateful for this second chance to choose.
After thinking it over, I decided to pick out engagement gifts for Matt myself.
At the century–old shop, I was discussing cufflink styles with the master craftsman when Connor suddenly walked in, holding Nina’s hand.
“What are you doing here?” He sneered.
The craftsman explained, “Ms. Jennings wants to personally design her fiancé’s engagement outfit.”
Connor glanced dismissively at the design drafts on the table, chin raised.
“I told you, I never wanted to marry you. No matter what you do, my mind won’t change.
“And I hate engraving on cufflinks. It’s tacky.”
I looked down at the cufflinks with the letter C and realized he probably misunderstood.
“Actually, these cufflinks are for—”
“Connor, this dress is so beautiful.”

Nina suddenly brightened, reaching over Connor to touch the hanging red dress.
Connor softened his expression. “If you like it, I’ll have them make one just for you.”
“But I want to wear it to the concert with you tonight.”
Nina’s coquettish tone made him smile, and then he ordered the craftsman, “Quickly alter it to fit Nina. Don’t make us late for the
concert.”
I frowned/“Connor, this is my engagement dress.”
He didn’t care. “I’m busy. I don’t have time to deal with your family’s engagement party.
“Besides, Nina suits this dress better than you do.”
Nina, with her back to him, couldn’t hide her arrogance.
But she murmured apologetically, “If Ms. Jennings isn’t willing, then never mind. This dress is too exquisite for a nobody like me to wear…”
“That’s nonsense! How could the woman I love be some nobody? Stella’s just riding on her parents‘ coattails. She’s not so noble herself.”
Connor didn’t hold back and handed the dress to the craftsman.
The craftsman remained respectful, waiting for my instructions.
After all, my family had been their biggest client since his great–great- grandfather’s time.
Connor’s anger flared at the craftsman’s calmness. “You-

Connor finally softened.

“Since you’re being reasonable, after we’re married, I can join you for one meal a month.”
His proud tone felt like he was reluctantly giving me a small scrap of
affection.
It suddenly hit me why his attitude changed the moment he found out my family was at the top of the elite, while his family was barely in the top
ten.
I used to adore his fearless youth, and how he never valued people by
money.
But after that, he kept bringing up “your family,” always pointing out that I depended on my parents, putting me down, despising me, and, knowing I loved him, deliberately saying the cruelest things.
He was simply insecure.
I couldn’t help but smile at that thought.
“Connor, how can you be so sure I’m marrying you?”
